The drug "Sodium Chloride" is a compound used to eliminate dehydration, intoxications of various genesis (food poisoning, acute dysentery, indomitable vomiting, cholera, extensive burns accompanied by exudation), postoperative shock.

It is also used for washing eyes, wounds, nasal mucous membranes, for performing regional perfusion with antitumor agents, heparin, as a solvent for medicines. The main form of release is a solution of 0.9% for intravenous administration.

Sodium chloride solution. Instruction: composition, pharmacological properties

In the composition of the drug, the active substance is sodium chloride. Auxiliary component: purified water.

With intravenous administration, the solution quickly enters the cells from the vascular bed through the interstitial sector. Half-life is one hour. Ions of chlorine, sodium can quickly be eliminated by the kidneys, which significantly increases diuresis.

Isotonic solution has a pronounced hydrating, detoxifying, plasma-substituting effect, normalizes the balance of acids, alkalies of the body.

Depending on the fluid loss, three to five thousand milliliters of the drug are injected intravenously. For children who have a marked drop in blood pressure (against the background of dehydration), twenty to thirty milliliters of the drug per kilogram of body weight are injected. The further dosage regimen depends on laboratory parameters. Long-term administration of the drug requires monitoring the concentration of electrolytes in urine, plasma. Solution "Sodium chloride" for inhalations is not applied, as this can cause serious toxic effects (shock), which will threaten the life of the patient.

The use of the solution may be accompanied by the appearance of the following side effects:

Weakness, dizziness;

- vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, thirst;

- pains of a spastic nature in the stomach;

- shortness of breath, swelling, fever, sweating;

- hypertension, muscle twitching, anxiety;

- arterial hypertension, tachycardia;

- impaired renal function, chloride acidosis;

Hypokalemia, hyperhydration.

Use of the drug is prohibited in the presence of thrombophlebitis, hypernatremia, extracellular hyperhydration, severe kidney disease, increased blood clotting, circulatory disorders that threaten the development of pulmonary edema, the brain, when treated with significant amounts of glucocorticosteroids.

The drug is compatible with hemodynamic blood substitutes of colloidal type (there is a mutual enhancement of effectiveness).

If patients have heart failure, impaired renal excretory functions, hyperkalemia, administer large amounts of solution with caution. The solution of "sodium chloride" during pregnancy should be used only according to the indications of the attending physician.

Symptoms of an overdose are similar to side effects, but they are significant. To eliminate these conditions, symptomatic therapy is used.

The drug should be stored in places protected from moisture, direct sunlight, at temperatures not exceeding 25 ° C. Shelf life - five years. After the end of this period, the use of the solution is prohibited because of the loss of its pharmacological properties and the increased likelihood of developing toxic effects.
