Siphon for the shower tray: what are they and what to choose?

What part of the shower is the most important? Perhaps it's the shower itself or the water supply system. But they are at the top, in an accessible place, and in case of breakage they are easily replaced. Important for the trouble-free operation of the shower cubicle is a properly selected siphon. After all, who wants to get into a situation when the water starts to leak at the connection points or does not pour out of the pan, does not merge, but the shower can clearly hear the smell of sewerage.

Purpose of the siphon

Siphon for the shower tray is designed for drainage of used water. In addition, he should not let smells from the sewer system.

Types of siphons

For shower cabins, special siphons are produced. They differ in their design features, in the material they are made of, at the price. For each of the pallets, you can select several models of siphons. But they all belong to one of three groups.

Siphon for the shower tray is:

• Standard - inexpensive option, which is equipped with most budget pallets.
• Automatic - designed for a high pallet, which has a special opening for overflow. There is a lever that opens or closes the sink without touching the cork.
• Click-clack - allows you to open the sink by pressing your toe. Similarly, it closes the drain hole. Such a siphon can be installed on a pallet of any design and price.

All models of siphons have some design features that make their application or installation more convenient.

A siphon for a shower tray is of several types:

• Tube (knee) is made of plastic. It consists of several tubes curved in a certain way. More often they resemble the Latin letters S or U. This design is usually rigid, so to install such a siphon you need to carefully adjust all the elements. Designed for high pallets. The advantage of such a siphon is the reliability of a stiff construction.
• Bottled is created for all kinds of pallets. It has the shape of a bottle, the neck attached to the sewer. The water is drained through the side pipe. It is convenient in operation. It's just cleaned. To do this, simply unscrew the lid of the flask. Rinse, clean and install into place. Install is not so convenient. Usually, you have to turn the drain neck. This siphon is quite large in size, therefore it takes up a lot of space. After installation, it is high up from the base level. To install the shower cubicle use special podiums.
• Corrugated is not very reliable. It is convenient to install. But at the folding points it cracks after a while. Quickly soiled. After all, the dirt settles in such a pipe. The corrugated siphon is considered a type of pipe siphon. Form it with clamps. The drain connection can be located directly or sideways. The second is much more common.
• The drainage drain has a very simple design, it is easy to install in the floor. You can use a special opening. The height of the construction is 8 cm. There are no plugs and bushings for overflow. This is a siphon for a shower cabin with a low pallet.
• A siphon can be overflowed. Buy it when it is provided for the design of the pallet.
• With the retrievable basket, the hole in which is larger than in the mesh of the siphon with self-cleaning function.
• With bottom valve, grate (ladder).

How to choose a siphon

It is necessary to take into account the technical parameters of the siphon, its diameter. The options are also three: 50, 62, 90 mm. To find the right one, measure the diameter of the hole and look for exactly that. The tightness of the connection depends on the accuracy of the measurements.

The capacity of the siphon is of great importance for rapid release from water. It also affects the rate of clogging and the frequency of cleaning. Often the bandwidth depends on the purpose of the device. The siphon for the shower tray 50 mm and 62 mm is used for low structures. They are able to work normally only if the water is above the siphon no higher than 12 cm. The siphon for the 90-mm shower tray cope with a water layer of 15 cm. Therefore, models with a smaller diameter are used in low pallets, and the widest in high pallets.

The level of complexity of cleaning the siphon depends on its design. The fewer connections in the structure, the more reliable it is. After all, each of them can be depressurized.

There are models that are not cleaned at all. These have to be removed by examining the pallet. There are siphons, which are cleaned automatically. Inside such a model is a grid with very small holes. Virtually any garbage remains on the mesh and does not clog the siphon. But they are expensive. Therefore, it is possible to protect the siphon from getting a debris by a special net.

Well, if the siphons for showers with a high pallet are equipped with a drain valve that keeps water during washing. A drain valve is not provided in all siphons. Then use an ordinary stub.

Siphon installation

A shower cubicle with a deep pallet is installed in several stages:

• Prepare the foundation.
• Check the siphon for completeness, thread reliability.
• Flip the pallet, install a power structure, attach a siphon to which a flexible drain hose is connected.
• Turn the structure back, install it on the intended place, adjust the legs so that the pan is horizontal. The angle of inclination is not needed, because it is already provided in the design of the pallet.
• Siphon should be from the entrance to the sewer system at a distance of not less than 5 cm. This determines the discharge speed.
• Connect the hose for draining water, treated with a sealant.
• Connect the hoses to the water supply.

The cab with a flat pallet is installed on the screed made of cement. Its gangway is mounted at a small angle.

Cleaning the siphon

To ensure that the siphon can be cleaned of debris, a special inspection hole must be left during installation. It is not necessary only for the overflow neck with a diameter of 90 mm. They are cleaned through the sink. Just clean the sewer.

Siphon under the shower tray is made of plastic, brass. It can not be cleaned with compressed air, otherwise the integrity of the system will be compromised. This will lead to a full repair.

To clean the siphon-ladder remove the grate and remove the debris.

Siphon Replacement

• The complexity of this process depends on the type of pallet. If it's high, it's easy to do. Unscrew the available throats: drainage, overflow.
• Take off the siphon.
• Establish a new, carefully sealing connections.

A low pallet is usually glued with mounting foam to the floor. Therefore, it is very difficult to change the siphon for a shower enclosure with a low pallet. Most often you have to reinstall the entire booth. To be able to do without this, you need to install a self-cleaning siphon for a shower tray or a wide mouth.
