Kinds of baths for a small bathroom

If your apartment is located in one of those houses that people call "Khrushchevs", you probably are familiar with certain inconveniences associated with lack of space in the bathroom. Place in it a standard bathing capacity and a washstand so that there is at least a little free space for some bedside table or other furniture is almost impossible. It is not necessary to speak about a washing machine at all. Some owners of small apartments solve the problem by combining the bathroom and toilet in a single bathroom. But in fact, this is not the best option, especially if you have a large family.

The output in this case can serve as a bath with a reduced size. Correctly picking up the dimensions and design, you will not only save the space of the room, but also decorate it with the original bathing. In this article, we'll talk about what kinds of baths are and which ones are best suited for a small room.

Criterias of choice

To start with, the choice of a bathing capacity involves several criteria:

  • Geometric form;
  • the size;
  • design;
  • material;
  • functionality.

The form

It is from the shape of the bath should be repelled when choosing it. Its geometry can be:

  • Standard rectangular;
  • Round (oval);
  • Triangular (angular views of the baths);
  • Abstract (non-symmetric).

Rectangular bowls are the most common and popular. They are suitable for any interior. They can be tightly fitted to the walls, without spending extra centimeters. They are fairly simple and practical to use. Saved and the length of the bath 50-60 cm, you can freely place on this space washing machine.

Bowls in the form of a circle or oval are usually installed in spacious rooms, because these forms are in no way connected with saving the usable area. Similar can be said about baths, the geometry of which is characterized by the lack of symmetry. However, if the size of such a bowl is reduced, it will fit perfectly into the interior of a small room.

But the angular views of the baths, made in the form of a triangle, can effectively use the space. And even if the party will have some 100 cm in length, such a bath will be spacious enough for swimming. But here you should take into account the geometric features of the room, as well as possible options for placing the bowl. It should not occupy more than a third of the area of the room and protrude beyond the doorway.

The size

So, we decided that for a small bathroom we are most suited to rectangular or corner baths, photos of which you can see below. But if we are talking about a small bathing room, the standard cup sizes (150-170 cm in length and 50-75 in width) will not work for us in any way. Today, a wide range of different types of bathtubs with reduced dimensions are on sale. It can be a rectangular bowl 120x70 cm, 130x70 cm, 115x72 cm, 150x100 cm, or triangular 70x70 cm, 70x50 cm, etc. Here everything depends on the size and shape of the room itself. You will have to independently measure and determine which dimensions of the capacitance will suit you most.

Design

As for the design, today it's quite easy to choose a bath for the interior of the room. A wide range of models, made in different styles, complements the variety of colors and materials, so you can quite make your bedroom from any small style in any style. Among the current range of bowls you can choose these styles:

  • Modern (rectangular, angular, asymmetric types of baths);
  • Japanese (deep oval);
  • Victorian (small in length, deep, with vintage design).

Material

Today, baths are made of a variety of materials. The most popular bowls are from:

  • Cast iron;
  • become;
  • Acrylic;
  • Acrylic and polymer concrete;
  • Tree.

Consider each of the listed materials, evaluating its advantages and disadvantages.

Cast-iron baths

Cast-iron baths are a classic in our understanding. All of us remember these huge heavy bowls, which were equipped with all the apartments of high-rise buildings without exception. The only advantage of cast iron over other materials is its ability to retain heat for a long time. In other words, the hot water in the bath slowly cools. In all the rest, the cast-iron bowl loses. And most of all - because of the significant weight. Modern types of baths for a small bathroom made of cast iron are made quite rarely.

Steel

Steel bowls are most popular. They have a small weight, they can have different shapes and colors, but, most importantly, they are cheaper than all other options. That is why most bathrooms are equipped with such bowls.

The disadvantages of steel baths include the relative strength of the material, high thermal conductivity, as well as noise. To damage the surface of the bowl of steel is quite simple. It is enough to drop into it some relatively heavy object, and the deformation accompanied by the chips of the enamel is guaranteed. Sheet steel perfectly conducts heat, so the bath under the influence of hot water very quickly heats up, but it also quickly cools down, giving the temperature to the surrounding air. And, of course, noise. A jet of water falling from the tap into the tub causes a loud enough sound. For someone it is a mere trifle, and others such a noise can be annoying.

Acryl and acrylic with polymer concrete

The most practical and universal are the acrylic bowls for bathing. The thing is that this synthetic material has the greatest number of advantages:

  • Relatively low cost;
  • High strength along with ductility;
  • Excellent resistance to damage;
  • Low thermal conductivity;
  • durability;
  • Light weight;
  • The possibility of performing a variety of forms.

Of course, not all types of acrylic bathtubs can be called inexpensive, however, most of them can be bought at a price that does not differ much from the cost of the customary steel bowl. At the same time, you will get a practically eternal bath, which you can independently bring to your home, connect it to the communications. Moreover, you do not have to wait for the bowl to warm up before bathing, because acrylic itself is not cold at all. It should also be added that baths made of this material are made in a variety of sizes and shapes. They can have distinctive seats, leg seals, armrests, shelves and many other items that complement the comfort of bathing. It is these bowls that are most often used to equip small bathrooms.

Not so long ago in the market there were different kinds of baths, made of a mixture of acrylic and polymer concrete. This material is similar in structure to ceramics, which makes the models look much more massive and beautiful. Baths made of acrylic and polymer concrete have not yet found wide distribution, although they enjoy a certain popularity. Their only drawback is the high price.

Tree

Baths of wood came to us from the Ancient East. While our ancestors were bathing in baths, the Japanese and Chinese bathed in wooden vats filled with hot water. Of course, not everyone will want to equip their bathroom with such a bath, but if you decide to decorate it in oriental style, then why not. Correctly selected tree species and workmanship are the two main criteria for choosing such a bath. As for the size and depth of the bowl, you can choose only here based on the size of the room. Naturally, a bath of wood is not a cheap pleasure, especially if it is made according to all the rules. But if you want your bathing room to resemble an oriental bath with all its attributes, you'll have to shell out.

Functional capabilities of bathtubs

Regardless of how large a bath you want to buy, think about its functionality. Even in a small room you can install a bowl equipped with hydromassage equipment. This, of course, does not apply to conventional steel, cast iron bowls or even wooden bowls. Such models usually do not have such functions. In its majority, the whirlpool equipment is installed on acrylic bathtubs, including reduced ones. However, it is completely hidden under special bends. In other words, the equipment does not take up additional space.

Having installed a bath in your home, you can always enjoy a relaxing massage, regardless of the size of the bowl.

Shower cabinet

An excellent solution for a small bathroom can be a shower cubicle. This option is most suitable for those who do not particularly like to luxuriate in warm water with foam, or those to whom such bathings are contraindicated. But there are also models that combine the properties of baths and showers. They consist of a deep pallet in which you can collect water and calmly bathe, as well as a shower system including vertical and horizontal water supply. Such types of bathtubs are very popular among residents of small apartments. Considering them as an alternative to an ordinary bath, you can win not only in free space, but also in monetary terms.
