What to see first of all in such a mysterious country as Belgium? Brussels, whose sights are unique, is the political and cultural center of the country. It is with him recommended to begin an acquaintance with Belgium. The city is divided into a new part and an old one, which the inhabitants of this area call the "Pentagon" because of the ring boulevard built on the site where the old defensive structures used to be. The largest square of the capital is the Grand Place, where the attention is drawn to the old town hall, on the weathercock which depicts St. Michael, who defeats the dragon. Not far from the square is the famous Mannequin-Pis fountain, which is considered a visiting card of the city. Nearby stands the Palais des Nations (Parliament).

Continuing to consider the sights of Belgium, it is impossible not to mention the Royal Galleries. This complex is one of the most famous in the world. The Cathedral of St. Michael, built in the 13th-16th centuries, as well as the Palace of Academies and the Royal Palace, located in the "Classic Quarter", enjoys no less popular with the city's guests. Here you can see the delightful structure - the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary. Nearby stands the majestic Kokelberg Basilica of Secret-Ker.

The museum square will delight visitors of the city with a huge number of museums. Here stands the magnificent palace of Charles of Lorraine, next to which is the illuminated well "Failure". It is impossible not to see such a delightful structure as the Gothic church of Notre-Dame de Victoire du Sablon, built in the 16th century.

Museums in Anderlecht

To see other places of interest in Belgium, you should move to Anderlecht, where the museum of Erasmus of Rotterdam deserves the greatest attention . It is recommended to inspect the first skyscraper in Belgium - the Borenbond tower. The city has a huge number of different museums, each of which deserves a visit. It is impossible not to mention such a construction as the Town Hall Borgerhaut, which houses 47 bells.

Attractions of Lear

Continuing to consider the sights of Belgium, we turn our attention to the city of Lear. This settlement became famous thanks to the Zimmer tower, which used to be part of the city wall. At present, it is turned into an astronomical clock representing the dial in time, around which there are 12 small dials showing the lunar and solar calendar, the signs of the zodiac, the time of the year, the day of the week and the like. Statues of the kings of the city and the burgomasters produce an hourly bell ringing, located on the right side of the tower. Inside the structure there is a planetarium. In addition to the astronomical clock in the city deserves the attention of the luxurious town hall, built in the Rococo style. In the central square of Lear stands the Collegiate Church, dedicated to the patron of the city. Its building is built in the style of Brabant Gothic. One of the most beautiful in the country is the Beginagazh monastery, founded in the 13th century.

Ghent is a city of ancient buildings

Belgium, whose photos depict the entire beauty of this country, is famous for its inhabited place, which rightly can be called a city of ancient buildings. This is the capital of Eastern Flanders - Ghent, which houses many buildings of the ancient architecture of the country. The largest number of them is concentrated in the historical part of the city. The bridge of St. Michael through the watchtower and the channel Lis is considered a symbol of the city. It is from this place that we should begin our inspection of Ghent. In whatever corner of the city you go, you can everywhere meet a whole string of attractive buildings. This is the church of St. Nicholas, and the magnificent castles of Gerard the Devil and Count Philip, built in the 12th century. One of the majestic structures is the palace of Van der Mers, erected in the 18th century. Interest for many tourists are the paintings of Van Eyck in the cathedral of St. Bavo. It will be interesting to visit the abbey of St. Peter, located on the slopes of Blandeinberg.

Bruges is a medieval shopping center

This is not the whole of Belgium. Ghent, whose attractions we have already inspected, is not the only city in which almost every structure deserves attention. Another excellent place to visit is Bruges. One of the most attractive buildings is the watch tower, whose height is 83 meters. It was built in the period of 13-15 centuries. An equally interesting construction of the 12th-13th centuries is the Cathedral of St. Salvator, in which the Cathedral Museum is located. Another structure that is recommended to inspect is the Gothic Church of Our Lady, whose height is 122 meters. Its construction was carried out in the 14th century. Not less beautiful are the churches of St. Anne, St. Jacob, the Jerusalem Church and the Church of St. Walpurgia. In addition, the city has 80 magnificent bridges, stretching above the most beautiful canals.

"Hot City" Liège

Considering the sights of Belgium, it is impossible not to mention Liege, which is one of the ancient cities of Wallonia. It is recommended to visit the palace of princes-bishops. There are many interesting museums in the city. Among the architectural structures the town hall deserves attention. An ancient symbol of the independence of the city is a fountain with four columns, on which statues of lions are placed. It is built on the market square of Marsha. Interesting for the inspection is the church of St. Antoine, as well as the ancient Frer-Miner monastery, where there are baptismal fonts with plots from the Bible. On the St. Paul's Square stands the majestic Cathedral, next to which the statue of the Delcourt Virgin draws attention.

Homeland of Beethoven - Mechelen

What else can Belgium surprise with its guests? The sights, photos of which are presented above, can be supplemented with the most interesting places and constructions of the city of Mechelen, which is the birthplace of Beethoven. One of the oldest buildings is Schepenheis (built in 1374). It will be interesting to visit the palace of Margarita of Austria, where the Palace of Justice is now located. Among other buildings, the Margarita of York Palace, where the theater is currently located, should be highlighted.
