Khovanskoye cemetery: how to get there, what to see

Among the most diverse attractions of Moscow, the necropolis is very popular. There are almost 70 of them in Moscow, although, of course, not all of them have artistic value, so to speak.

Khovanskoye cemetery

Among these necropolises is the Khovansky cemetery. How to get there, most likely, most of the Muscovites will tell: still it is one of the cemeteries that are still functioning. And many burials in this "city of the dead" cause curiosity, not only from the point of view of interest to those who found the last shelter here, but also from the point of view of the decoration of the graves. So, if you do not have prejudice against visiting necropolises, take a little time to visit the Khovansky cemetery. How to get there without a car, it's easy to figure out. Buses 500 and 502 of the route will take you to the necessary place for a very moderate fee.

History

But a little bit about the history of this place. The Khovansky cemetery is quite young. It was founded only in 72 of the last century. Today it is divided into two parts - the North and the West. The first is older, it exists since 1978. The second, called "Western", was founded in 1992. At the moment, the necropolis is considered the largest in the whole of Europe, its area reaches almost two hundred hectares.

It is known this cemetery and the church complex, where there is a remarkable temple of the Baptist John, and a chapel of the famous icon of Vladimir's Mother of God. And since 97 years of the last century there is a site in the cemetery where they are buried according to Muslim customs. He is equipped with everything necessary to conduct the last way of the deceased in all Muslim canons.

"Criminal" burials

If you understand how to get to the Khovansky cemetery, visit it at least out of curiosity. The most scandalous graves here are the graves of criminal authorities. One of them, nicknamed Sylvester (according to the passport Timofeev SI), died from the explosion in 1994. The second one, buried in front of him, is Grandfather Hassan (who is also Aslan Usoyan) who was shot by a sniper in January of last year.

But not everything is so odious. And more worthy personalities are buried here. So, the resting place of Nina Iskrenko (poetess) and Simvolkov (magician, illusionist) also chose the Khovansky cemetery. How to reach their graves, and in which part of the necropolis they are, you will be told by the cemetery inspector. And they are not the only significant people buried here. The cemetery is full of directors, poets, composers and journalists, prominent figures of the Soviet Union and modern Russia.

Recall that almost 200 hectares - this is all Khovanskoye cemetery. How to get to the right part of it, you should think in advance. During the days of religious holidays and memorial days, the route is simplified and becomes more diverse. Then, additional express trains are launched, in the role of which the bus appears. The Khovansky cemetery is accessible "in parts": to the central part there are express trains 2 and 3 routes (from the metro station "Teply Stan" and the station "Yugo-Zapadnaya" respectively), and to the northern one - and 4 routes, from the same subway stations.
