Sewing tread of tires with a machine

When the tread pattern begins to disappear from the tire surface, the car enthusiast asks if the wheels last for the season. There is a miracle-way to prolong the life of worn-out rubber with the help of tread cutting tires.

Tread cutting device

Indeed, treading tires with their own hands is a fairly simple procedure. For her, special devices have been invented - machine-regrugers. They are all licensed. You can choose a device that is suitable for the price.

Machines are cheaper equipped with a modest set of blades and are not protected from overheating. Designed to work only with rubber cars. They are small and compact. They are not used in service stations.

Instruments more expensive are already considered professional. Naturally, they cost two times more, have a rich bundle of blades and a powerful transformer. That's them and they use it on tire shops.

They make machines in China, USA, Turkey. The most popular are produced in Germany and France.

Those who are not interested in keeping up with the progress are using a Bulgarian, a chisel or a soldering iron. In this way, the protector was deepened in a truck transport, when there was simply no alternative to these devices.

When is treading unacceptable?

Rubber for passenger cars (except for specially marked) is not subject to restoration. And that's why:

  1. Tires for passenger cars do not have an additional layer of rubber. Deeper into it by the cutter, you can easily damage the cord. After this, the wheel will become unusable and will not be subject to recovery. The idea of making winter tires from summer tires can result in a blast of the wheel and an accident.
  2. Even with the cut protector, the tire that has left its time will not remain as soft and elastic as before. Cracks and red spots on the side surfaces - a clear sign of the end of her service.

What tires restore?

Car enthusiasts argue a lot about whether it is necessary to do tire cutting of the tire, or rather - can it be done. Here are examples of cases where you can really:

  1. On the tire there is a marking of Regroovable or U. These marks mean that the manufacturer has made an additional layer of rubber over the cord, which can be deepened by cutting.
  2. Virtually all cargo tires have a thick layer of rubber, which can also be restored.
  3. Wheel with normal tread depth, past repair and vulcanization. In this case, the drawing is simply restored by a patch. Such a procedure can be carried out on any wheel.
  4. Winter tires are adapted for off-road driving, cutting off part of the pattern with a typewriter.
  5. On the erased protector weld a layer of rubber, thereby increasing the thickness of the tire to an acceptable level. Already on a new layer are cutting. This restoration will be more expensive, but if the tire is not cracked, it is quite acceptable.

As a rule, after restoration work, rubber serves another third of the term from the past.

Process of cutting

The machine for cutting tread tires with your own hands - the tool is very easy to use. It takes only a little skill. We take the tire, which can be restored and proceed:

  1. We study rubber. We make sure that it has the necessary marking (Regroovable or U). Then, by the slicing indicators, we determine whether it is necessary to carry out the procedure.
  2. If necessary, we remove the rubber from the disk and clean it thoroughly from dirt, sand and stones. We inspect the product from the inside: there should be no damage. Otherwise, the tire can be restored only in the tire shop.
  3. We find the most worn part of the figure and measure the depth of the tread. If the rubber rubs unevenly, we will strive to ensure that the depth index is the same everywhere - at least 3 mm.
  4. We take the machine for cutting the tread of tires and install on it a cutter corresponding to the width of the pattern.
  5. We begin cutting. Smooth movements remove strips about 15 cm long.
  6. Smell of burnt rubber - a little faster or reduce the power of the device (if the regulator in it is available).
  7. Cut off pieces from the surface.
  8. After the protector is restored, we clean all grooves and lamellas (you can use a brush).
  9. Install the tire on both the front and rear axle.

Finally

Tread cutting tires are very popular. Unfortunately, this method often restores rubber, unsuitable for this, endangering all road users. When buying a used tire, it is worth checking carefully.
