History of creation

When Fox refused to show the Firefly series after the 11th series, its director Joss Weedon tried to attach his offspring to other TV channels, but was rejected everywhere. Someone did not fit the genre, others by the target audience. Then Weedon had the idea of creating a full-length picture based on the "Firefly". The actors agreed to the shooting. "Mission Serenity" (as the film was later called) from the dream began to turn into reality.

For the first time about the desire to shoot a full-length tape on the basis of his own series, Weedon started talking in 2003. Fans of Firefly did not have to wait long - in September 2003 the director signed a contract with Universal Pictures and started work on the picture. The actors ("Mission Serenity") moved from the series to a new film without changing their composition.

The problem remained a small budget picture - 93 million dollars by the standards of modern blockbusters the amount is simply meager. This was the reason that there are quite a few special effects in the film - only about 400 scenes.

Plot

On one of the planets, the ship selects two passengers: Dr. Simon and his younger sister River. As it later turns out, the girl has a telepathic gift. The brother stole her from the secret laboratory of the Alliance, where experiments were put on her. As a consequence, the River is in an unstable state and can be dangerous. On the trail of fugitives is a government agent.

After the incident at the bar, when the River got out of control, Captain Reynolds decided to find out the mystery associated with the girl. To do this, Serenity is sent to the planet Miranda, which is in dangerous proximity to the territory controlled by the Death Eaters - cannibal barbarians.

Differences of the feature from the series

The film almost repeats the story told in the Firefly to the smallest detail. To meet the chronometers, dialogues and key episodes were minimized. I had to cut out some minor lines from the picture. The director confined himself to a story about the fate of Simon and River, who infiltrated Serenity in an attempt to escape from the agents of the Alliance.
