Roborovsky hamster: care, content, nature, cost

Not all people have the opportunity to keep a cat or dog at home. Circumstances can be different: the absence of the owner of the house until a deep evening, an allergy to wool, living in a rented apartment - usually their owners are categorically against pets that are capable of chewing or scratching furniture. However, to have in the house something warm and fluffy still want. And people bring in "cellular" animals: guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, and even chinchillas. If you are a fan of cute rodents, you can get to the heart of a robotic hamster, captivating people around the world.

The origin of the animal

This little animal has a very interesting history of spreading around the world. The historical homeland of the hamster is desert and semi-desert regions in the east of Asia. This includes mainly Mongolia and China, but the beast can also be found in the Asian part of Russia. The largest population is observed in the foothills of the Tien Shan. The first description of the animal was made only in the 19 th century, but as a pet, the robotic hamster became popular even later. In the year 70 of the last century, a batch of rodents was brought to the Moscow Zoo. It can be said that this was the first acquaintance with the "robes" of the entire civilized world. It was from here that the journey of hamsters began to other countries: the British and Americans first bought them from the USSR, and other European countries followed them.

Description of the animal

Hamster Roborovsky (or dwarf hamster) is considered the tiniest representative of his tribe. The maximum length of the body is five centimeters, there are no smaller hamsters. The second notable feature is the white eyebrows present in any individual. And the third feature is the fur-covered soles of the feet. The wool at the animal is thick and long enough, on the back - fawn, on the abdomen - almost white. The tail is there, but so small that it is almost invisible due to the coat. The muzzle can be called a snub-nosed, the ears are large and round in shape, black, but with a light ruffle.

In general, the animal has such a characteristic appearance that even an amateur can identify it. This is relevant when considering the question of how much the Roborovsky hamster costs. In the whole world it is the most expensive breed. In America, they ask him for $ 13 to $ 30; In Russia prices are, of course, lower, but also exceed the cost of other varieties of hamsters. In the market, a robotic hamster will cost 80-100 rubles, but there is a great risk that you will get sick or an old animal. Worse still, the hamster is not Roborovsky, so vigilance should be increased. In a nursery or a breeder, a hamster will cost from 250 rubles, but a passport is attached to it, and the animal will be vaccinated against possible diseases.

The nature of the "robe"

When you are going to get a pet, think how it fits your aspirations. For lovers to cuddle an animal, playing with it a robotic hamster is not very suitable: he is very timid. In addition to the fact that the animal will use its teeth, it can get stressed from stress, and with regular fright - even die.

On the other hand, hamsters are very active, so watching them gives real pleasure. In addition, the robotic hamster is almost the only subspecies that can be kept in groups. True, they should be present only individuals of the same sex.

Hamster Roborovsky: content and equipment for him

One of the main advantages of the described animal is its high resistance to diseases. And if you bought the animal from the breeder, with good genetics, then he will not show hereditary diseases.

The maintenance and care of Roborovsky's hamster are simple and will not bring hassle if you properly equip the house with it. First of all, you should not plant a pet in a cage. No matter how often the rods are, he will still manage to slip away, and, given the tiny dimensions, it will be extremely difficult to find it. It is better to buy a hamster aquarium. And for one inhabitant, not less than a quarter of a square space is allocated - the robotic hamster is very mobile, and if there is not enough space, he begins to mope, becomes more aggressive. Additional equipment includes:

  1. A small house or at least a small box where the animal will hide and sleep.
  2. Running wheel with a solid surface so that the crumb does not break the paws.
  3. Tunnels, sticks and other "lazalki."
  4. Feeding trough and drinking bowl.

The bottom is lined with quartz sand; It is better to change it more often, so that a strong animal "spirit" does not appear in the apartment. It would be nice to supplement the landscape with large stones and hay - so the hamster will feel better.

The right diet

Food "Robik" is not much different from the menu of other hamsters. The guarantee of his health and longevity is diversity. The basis is made up of various seeds, in particular sunflower and millet. Mandatory greenery; Salad and dandelion foliage are perfect. The animal is approved with vegetables and fruits, oat flakes and bread soaked in milk. Occasionally, especially young individuals, they need supplementary feeding with flour worms. However, if you feed your pet with ready-made compounds, you can simply supplement them with a green mass: the feed contains everything that the baby needs.

A couple of words about the breeding

Roborovsky hamster in captivity multiplies not very willingly due to all the same natural fearfulness. However, you can still achieve what you want. To do this, the aquarium should contain only one couple: the presence of strangers will inevitably cause fights either between males or between females. The latter are most often ready for reproduction at the age of three weeks, although in some cases the maturation is delayed up to three months - probably because of the characteristics of the contents or due to stress.

A pregnant female walks up to 22 days. Kids are down to 10 days of life, their eyes are cut on the 13th day. When their age reaches 3 weeks, they must be set aside - they are completely independent, and the female can begin to prepare for the next bearing.
