Rhododendron Daursky - a real decoration of a modern garden plot

Rhododendron Daursky ... Why is it becoming more and more popular in our garden plots?

It would seem, well, what is so difficult in choosing a new plant for the garden. We put the task: "Rhododendron - varieties" ... "Well, with this, it's easy to decide," - you say. And wrong! Everything is much more complicated than it seems at first glance.

Well, let's start in order. It turns out that to date, there are already more than 1,300 wild species of this plant, not counting the several thousand cultivars cultivated artificially.

The choice of a plant directly depends on the place of residence of the gardener. Many rhododendrons are varieties that are thermophilic and even tropical, and the large number of flowers sold in our stores is not really as frost-resistant as the sellers promise us. The thing is that the planting material is mainly delivered from Poland, and it is considered winter-hardy only by their standards.

Of course, there are also such species of these beautiful plants that are able to tolerate our climate. As a rule, these are very hardy representatives of the family from the Far East, from Siberia and Canada. These include rhododendron Daurian, Japanese, Forchun, Smirnov, Shlippenbach, short-bred and others.

All over the world, these bushes have recently become the most in demand. Why? Mainly due to the variety of shades of their flowers. Let's just say, if we simply translate from Greek the word "rhododendron", then we get a "pink tree". It's already beautiful, right? Indeed, it is unlikely that this plant would have a better name.

To begin with, we note that these deciduous, evergreen and semi-evergreen shrubs can differ in height and in shape and size of the leaves.

The shape, size and color of flowers are also diverse. Among them there are pink, white, purple, red and even purple-violet specimens. Basically, because of the long and abundant flowering, they occupy one of the first places in the popularity rating of beautifully flowering shrubs.

The leaves and flowers of some rhododendrons are impregnated with essential oils and therefore, in hot weather, exude a subtle and intrusive aroma.

The history of these plants has been more than three centuries. The center for the introduction of rhododendrons is England. Once there they started to breed very wealthy people. Why are the rich? Just rhododendrons, whose varieties are diverse, - shrubs, whose content required significant costs.

In Russia, rhododendrons first appeared at the end of the 1st century in the St. Petersburg Botanical Garden, which, incidentally, was still called the Aptekarsky Garden.

Now these crops are one of the most promising and suitable for planting plants. Note that only wild varieties multiply by seeds, for varietal same species are characterized by the removal, grafting, cuttings and division of the bush.

And now we suggest to stay on one of the types in more detail.

So, the Dahurian rhododendron is a representative of the Far East, Western Siberia, China and Mongolia. This bush is characterized by a strong branching. Its crown sometimes reaches a diameter of 62 cm at an average height of 50 cm. Leaves that tend to darken, curl into a tube and fall in the fall, are green and have an elongated shape. They usually appear after flowering, and the bush flowers with delicate pink flowers around April-May. Rhododendron Daurian loves light, but can easily tolerate and a minor penumbra. In principle, the plant is considered to be fairly winter-hardy, although frequent thaws are fatal to its flower buds.

Right, you just have to buy these magnificent bushes, and rhododendrons, regardless of their variety, will always be a real decoration of your garden site.
