Rhinorrhea - what is it? This is a special state of the body, in which there are abundant discharge from the nose, which are of a permanent nature. These secretions are a watery mucus secret, called exudate. Often rhinorrhea is a symptom of rhinitis, regardless of its origin, and may also result from a cold or flu. Performs and as an independent disease, without causing any changes in the mucous nasal cavity.

Causes of the disease

Abundant discharge of mucus from the nose, or rhinorrhea (what it is, is indicated earlier), can be provoked by:

  • Diseases of the nasal cavity ;
  • Allergic reactions;

  • Curvature of the nasal septum, and it can be both congenital and acquired, including as a result of surgical interventions;

  • Bad habits, in particular smoking;

Symptoms of the disease

The main symptom of rhinorrhea is regular watery discharge from the nose. But, depending on the reason for the occurrence of these secretions, other additional manifestations are accompanied.

Allergic rhinorrhea is characterized by edema of the nasal mucosa, frequent and profuse lacrimation, as well as ocular itching.

With sinusitis and other systemic diseases, purulent discharge may be present. In addition, a person can feel some heaviness and pressure in the face, regular headache or toothache.

If rhinorrhea is a symptom of colds or flu, in addition to strong discharge from the nose, there may be a fever, unpleasant sensations in the throat, fatigue, weakness, rapid fatigue.

Rhinorrhea, the symptoms of which depend on the cause, is characterized by nasal congestion and difficulty breathing. These manifestations will be present necessarily.

Methods of treatment of the disease

To begin treatment of a rhinorrhea it is possible only in the event that the reason of its or her occurrence is precisely clarified. For this, it is better to consult a doctor who, on the basis of tests, will make a definite diagnosis.

For example, in case of an allergic nature, antihistamines are prescribed, in particular "Suprastin" or "Pseudoephedrine". With catarrhal diseases, nasal drops or sprays with vasoconstrictive effect are effective, however, prolonged use of these drugs is not recommended, as it can aggravate the situation.

Often appoint "Atropine" (internally, the scheme is selected by a doctor) or calcium-containing drugs.

Traditional treatment

The most effective folk method for treating rhinorrhea is abundant drinking. In day it is necessary to drink not less than 8 glasses of a warm liquid, and it can be not only water, but also tea with honey or lemon addition. In addition, it is recommended that the nasal cavity is washed with a decoction of chamomile with medicinal or saline solution.

Aromatherapy - one of the methods of folk treatment, involves the use of essential oils and extracts. To treat rhinorrhea use tea tree oil, fir, eucalyptus and bergamot. For the procedure, the selected oil must be dripped into the water in the aroma lamp or sprayed in the room in which the patient is.
