Reversing traffic lights - what is it?

The number of vehicles of Russians increases by several thousand per year. Therefore, it is not surprising that we spend a good amount of time in traffic jams every day. Most often congestion on the roadway occurs in the same place and at certain hours. In this regard, on the roads in such areas are organized bands with reversible movement.

In itself, the word reverse means a return. In road traffic - the ability to move on a vehicle on one lane in two directions.

That is, first the stream moves in one direction, and then the counter one. The band on which the movement is carried out remains the same.

Reversing traffic lights, what is it?

Every driver heard about the term "reverse movement" . However, not all faced him in reality. Reverse movement is often used at a certain time when it is required.

The need for these bands occurs on those sections of roads where the traffic intensity varies throughout the day. So, for example, in the morning all of the houses rush to work, and in the evening, on the contrary. And in order to avoid creating hours of congestion, special bands are introduced.

Traffic control is carried out by means of a traffic light, a road patrol officer or road workers. The reversible traffic light controls the movement along the strip over which it is located.

Sometimes these traffic lights are used in tunnels. Installed over the rows, they allow for a short period of time to regulate traffic on the lanes in road accidents or during repair work on the carriageway.

Signs of a reversible strip

Any driver does not want to become the culprit of a traffic accident. Therefore, every car owner must remember the traffic rules and from time to time to repeat them, as annually changes are made to the rules.

So, the main signs of reversible movement, to which the driver is obliged to pay attention:

  • Working reversible traffic light.
  • Sign on the beginning of the band with reverse movement.
  • The layout is in the form of a double broken line on either side of the strip.

Signs

Reverse movement is indicated by a white arrow with two tips up and down on a blue background. Accordingly, the same sign, but crossed out with a red line, indicates the end of the reverse strip.

About the approach to this strip informs a sign with the number of meters before it. For example, a reversible row is located for five hundred meters. Therefore, a sign with a white two-sided arrow and below a 500 m number plate on a white background is set about half a kilometer from the beginning of the strip.

It should be noted that the zone of action of the sign "reversible movement" may include intersections. The end of the road with this type of movement is indicated only by the sign "End of reverse movement".

Layout

To distinguish the reversible and usual movement on the lanes should be able to every driver. At least because the latter allows you to move only in one direction. A reversal movement varies in time. Its stripes are located in the center of the carriageway. The markup looks like a double dashed line. And the length of a solid (white) part is equal to three lengths of gaps between them.

Variants of marking on the road:

  • One line in the center of the road. This marking indicates that the carriageway has two bands with reversible movement. They are located on both sides of the line, that is, on the right and left sides of it.
  • Several lines. With this method of marking the strip of reversible movement is one that is bounded on both sides by double dashed lines.

It is unclear why the road signs that would have designated reverse strips are not allocated. After all, they are next to the usual. There is a sign, signifying the road, on which there is movement on the reverse strip. But which one is not indicated. Reversing the traffic light - also not an assistant in the search for a band. After all, it only regulates the movement along it, but does not mean it at all. To determine where is this strip, and there is a markup. And here comes the snag. In dry summer weather, there will be no problems with locating the strip. But what to do with snow or mud, which covered the lines? After all, if there is no markup, then there are no reversible bands. No one has given an exact answer to this question so far.

Reversing light signals

As already mentioned, the traffic on the strip is regulated by a reversible traffic light. The rules of travel, according to his signals, are similar to the usual ones. The main difference is the appearance. If in normal traffic lights the signal looks like a circle of red, yellow or green color, then in the reversed direction it is signs.

Symbols:

  • The signal of a traffic light in the form of a red letter X - prohibits the movement on the reverse strip, over which it is installed, because at that time the opposite direction begins to travel along it.
  • A sign depicting an inclined arrow. Its point is directed to the right or left side. He reports an early change of the prohibiting one to a permissive signal or vice versa. And the driver is obliged to reorganize in that strip on which the arrow points. The yellow signal of the usual round traffic light prohibits the movement, the reverse does not. You have every right to start the movement and do not change the lane before turning red.
  • The traffic light signal in the form of a green arrow allows you to move on the vehicle along the row over which it is mounted.

Do not forget that the traffic light regulates movement only on the reverse strip, above which it is located.

Movement on the reverse side

Travel on the road with reverse movement should be carried out with special care. It requires the unconditional fulfillment of the rules. The slightest mistake or slowdown, and now in front of you oncoming lane, although only a couple of seconds ago all moved in the same direction as you.

Reorganization is permitted in the zone of visibility of the means of regulation on the reverse road with a permissive signal. If you move and a prohibition signal appears, your actions should be concentrated on the speediest exit from the band. Also, you can leave it at any time with an enabling signal.

Moving along the reverse strip is possible up to the sign indicating its completion. After driving is regulated by the usual traffic rules.

The rules of traffic on reverse roads can be summarized in several points:

  • Entry is permitted with the green or yellow traffic light turned on above the reversing bar.
  • When traffic light is switched off or when red light is switched on, moving your vehicle to the reversing lane is prohibited.
  • The SDA requires an immediate exit from the reversible strip if a red signal lights at the traffic light or it stops working.

Movement with reverse light turned off

With the reversed traffic lights turned off or if they are not available, traffic on the lanes is prohibited. The case when they are marked by a marking on one side or not at all is exclusive.

On the lanes, delineated on both sides by a double broken line, during the disconnected or missing traffic lights exit to them is strictly prohibited.

Nuances of reverse movement

A curious fact about the yellow signal of the reversible traffic light: the point of the arrow can point to any neighboring side. Reconstruct on the right lane, in principle, quite simple. But going to the left is an interesting maneuver. After all, the direction of the arrow does not oblige you to rebuild strictly on the specified side, but only informs. Proceeding from this, when you turn to the left, you can move to the right lane without violating the traffic rules, the passage of which is also allowed.

Often drivers are punished for the wrong exit from the reversible road to the usual one. In order not to spread the hard earned for a fine, it is necessary to remember one of the SDA points. Your car should be placed in the far right row, at the crossroads, where the reversing bar has its completion on the right. Even if later you plan to turn left.

Crossing roads with reverse movement is carried out taking into account those rules as the passage of ordinary crossroads. This must always be remembered, and movement will not be difficult.

It is strictly forbidden to stop on a road with reverse movement.

Crossing markup is allowed only if its location on the right side relative to you.

Penalties

Any failure to comply with the rules of the road entails punishment. Which exactly threatens you for not doing, of course, depends on what you have violated.

For example, if you turn the wrong way to the reverse, you will receive a fine of five hundred rubles or more. And for the exit with the lights off or missing, the penalty is twice as large. All measures of restraint does not make sense to list, because in the SDA often made changes. The main thing is to remember that the failure of you to follow the rules of the road may in the future deprive another person of life.
