Reservoir Iriklinskoe in the Orenburg region: recreation and fishing

The largest artificial reservoir in the Southern Urals is the Iriklinskoye reservoir, the construction of which continued from 1949 to 1957. Thanks to the decision to create a large freshwater storage, the Orenburg region has its own "sea" with a length of 415 km.

Today, the Iriklinskoye reservoir (photo is presented in the review) is a beautiful corner of nature with its ecosystem, fishing and recreation facilities. Thousands of tourists come here every year to rest and for a good catch.

Construction of a reservoir

For many years, construction was conducted, it was required to flood several settlements, forests and fields, so that Orenburg could find its "sea". Iriklinskoye reservoir was filled with water gradually, and only after another 8 years the water reached the planned level - 245 m above sea level.

One of the oldest flooded settlements was the village of Tanalyk, founded in 1743. In its place was formed the bay, named in his honor Tanalyk. People and the village itself were moved to another place, like the settlements of Gorny Yerik, Malyatino, Nikolsky and Sevastopol.

At the reservoir in the 50 years of the last century, a hydroelectric power station was built, which provides the nearest settlements with energy. After 15 years, the power plant was put into operation, near which the town of Energetik grew up.

The depth of the Iriklinsky reservoir ranges from 12 to 40 m, and its mirror covers an area of 260 km ² . In its waters were released for breeding commercial fish species - perch, bream, roach, whitefish, pike perch and others. Now there are nesting waterfowl, fishing services are working and tourists are resting.

Climate and landscape

The landscape that forms the Iriklinskoye reservoir is quite diverse and attractive in order to attract tourists here.

There are sandy and rocky spits, islands and peninsulas, bays, capes and lagoons. The largest island is the Island of Love, among the smaller ones, the Hanging Stone, Ust-Burlinsky and Koshar are in greatest demand among fishermen.

Here there are caves and grottos, attracting tourists with their mysteriousness. When the Iriklinsky reservoir (the Orenburg region) was under construction, floodplain forests were flooded. Instead, almost 3000 hectares of trees have been planted to strengthen the shoreline since the 1970s and up to the present day. For the steppe landscape inherent in this area, the banks of the reservoir are a pleasant variety and another reason to spend the weekend here or to go on a picnic.

Steppe climate with a lot of sunny days, the absence of strong storm winds, good water warming and high-quality sandy beaches made this place popular not only for the residents of the Orenburg region.

Flora of the Iriklinsky pond

As a result of the implementation of the coastal landscaping plan, the Iriklinskoye reservoir has become a "home" for tree species such as black poplar, elm, birch, ash and maple. "Survival" of vegetation was uneven. There are parts of the coast where afforestation occurred, while on others, on the contrary, self-seed thickets of poplar and elm grow.

Among the shrub species, bird cherry, golden currant, shrubbery willow and narrow-leaved goose prevail. On the limestone slopes around the reservoir, the Cossack juniper grew.

In the southern part of the "sea" is the Iriklinskoye gorge, there are cozy bays and caves, which have become an excellent place for the construction of recreation centers. Here grow wild cherry and birch forests, and in the Birch ravine - a real dense forest.

Ecosystem of the reservoir

Due to the fact that the rivers that filled the reservoir of Iriklinskoye differed in the composition of the water, in this place their own ecosystem was formed.

The Ural River and part of its western tributaries had sodium-calcium water of medium hardness and medium mineralization.

At the same time for the eastern tributaries, the chloride-sodium structure of water with increased mineralization was characteristic. From the river Saline pond "received" a chloride-sulphate composition with high mineralization.

The mixing of these waters "makes" the Iriklinsky reservoir from time to time to bloom, usually from the second half of July to August. This is caused by a large amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and other substances that create "oxygen starvation" in the water.

The hydrochemical composition evolved for a long time, until it stabilized to the level that it has today. Because of all these processes, a part of the fish released into the reservoir for breeding has either not taken root at all, or is present in it in very small numbers. Today in these waters are found 40 species of fish from 13 families.

On the shores of the reservoirs live flocks of silver gulls, terns, belladonna and blackhead gulls, and in this area 240 species of birds have settled down. Excellent feel in these places rabbit hare, hamster ordinary, foxes, badgers, caresses and ermines. From snakes there are snakes and steppe vipers.

Here you can simultaneously hear the whistle of marmots, the sounds of the steppe pika, the cries of birds and the sea surf, "seasoned" with the flavors of steppe herbs - thyme and sage with bitter wormwood.

Base "Cherry Hill"

Thanks to its beautiful coastline, many places for both organized and wild recreation can be offered by the Iriklinsky reservoir. "Cherry Hill" - the most famous recreation center, located in the wonderful southern part of the reservoir.
