Regional Art Museum (Tomsk): description and exhibits

The Regional Art Museum (Tomsk) is the only cultural and historical institution on the territory of this region. It was created on the basis of collections of the museum of local lore in 1979. Located in a stone three-story building, located in the center of old Tomsk. Previously, the building of the museum was a merchant's mansion (the construction of the early twentieth century). It is recognized as an architectural monument. The main building is connected with an outbuilding, in which there is a storage facility and the center of museum pedagogy.

A bit of history

In the first half of the twentieth century, the formation of collections was started, which is currently represented by the Tomsk Regional Art Museum. Tomsk is an administrative center, but there are not so many historical monuments here. But for the younger generation it is very important to know your history and have the opportunity to develop culturally. That is why the museum is very popular here. He was given 50 paintings, including a portrait of Khaminova and a still-life, made by Konchalovsky.

From the Moscow Tretyakov Gallery in 1929, the Tomsk Museum was given such works as portraits of Korsakov, Kasyanov, Kiprensky and landscapes of Polenov, Kamenev and some other painters of the XVIII-XIX centuries. At the same time, there appeared works by masters of other epochs, including such famous ones as Lentulov (the discoverer of the Russian avant-garde) and Malyavin (modern).

In the middle of the twentieth century, the works of Svedomsky and Klodt were bought into the museum's fund, and portrait work by Pleshanov was also presented.

The Art Museum (Tomsk) has six exhibition halls, containing approximately 100 important works of Russian painting. For example, the work of Aivazovsky, Mayakovsky, Kustodiev, Makovsky, Myasoedov.

In 1928, the formation of a collection of Western European art was begun. Pictures from the State Museum Fund were transferred to Jigante, Geisser and some other masters.

In 1932, the Art Museum (Tomsk) began to present works by such masters as Mathijsen, Verwlut and others. These exhibits were handed over to the Pushkin Museum. Also here appeared several first works of the native of Tomsk Zelenevsky.

  • Sculptures. This section shows the works of Russian masters of the XIX-XX centuries: Konenkov, Klodt, Tolstoy and others.
  • Decorative art.
  • Silver age of painting of provincial Tomsk.

Branches

The Regional Art Museum (Tomsk) has branches:

  • Museum of the Arts of the Peoples of the North. The basis of activity is the search and preservation of the culture of northern peoples. Presented fur products, leather products of crow's feet, which are decorated with a characteristic national ornament. Also in the museum there are items made of wood and other materials, embroidery with beads.
  • Picture gallery, located in the village Podgorny. The museum features works by Russian artists, in particular Siberia and Tomsk. The main part consists of the works of Kosmin, Gritsay, Nalbandyan, Zatulovskaya.
