Reducer of water pressure - guarantor of safety of water supply systems

Modern water systems require the installation of a pressure reducer. This device will protect expensive heating and plumbing systems from dangerous pressure drops in water supply systems.

The water pressure reducer is a device that allows limiting the pressure in the pipes. It helps to maintain the integrity of both the pipes themselves and all related equipment: cranes, mixers, flexible sub-assemblies. Thanks to the gearbox, it is possible to prevent emergency situations associated with the fractures and leaks of the system that result from the water hammer. In addition, the water pressure reducer serves as a regulator and helps to reduce its consumption, which is important in conditions of general economic instability. Installation of this device is especially necessary in the event that the maximum pressure in the supply network exceeds the permissible operating temperature set for pipes, fittings and appliances.

Pressure reducers of water have an extensive classification, which it is not so easy to understand. The main thing that should be noted is that they, like all the valves of the water pipeline, are designed for certain operating conditions, which are characterized by an acceptable temperature range, pressure, etc., therefore, when installing them, you must comply with technical requirements.

By the way of maintaining the given parameters , the water pressure reducers are divided into two types:
1. Regulator, working on the dynamics. It is used if it is necessary to maintain pressure at a constant continuous flow of water in pipelines.
2. The regulator working on a statics. Applicable for those cases when the water is unstable and uneven, for example, in houses, apartments, some types of equipment. This device always maintains a preset pressure after itself.

The reducer sets the pressure in the water pipe automatically, its operation does not require electrical equipment. The water pressure regulator is a reducing valve, the action of which is due to the load-weighting agent or spring, or directly due to the water pressure. By the device principle, the regulators of indirect and direct action are distinguished. In turn, the latter can be lever or spring.

Water pressure reducer - operating principle

In spring valves, pressure reduction occurs due to equalization of forces. The force of the tuning spring is counteracted by the force of the diaphragm. When the force received by the diaphragm from the inlet pressure decreases due to the draw-off, a higher spring force causes the valve to open. The output pressure thus increases, so long as the elastic force of the spring does not balance the diaphragm force. Since the inlet pressure can not influence the opening / closing of the valve, its oscillations have no effect on the outlet pressure. As a result of the regulator, the inlet pressure is balanced.

Gearboxes are installed on the highway with hot and cold water. It is preferable to use a horizontal pipe section for this purpose, but if necessary, installation on a vertical riser is permitted. In order for the water pressure reducer to function reliably, an inlet must be installed at the entrance to it, which must be cleaned periodically, at the same time as the gearbox seat is cleaned. Regulators do not require other care, and worn parts (membrane, mesh) can easily be replaced without dismantling.
