Rebellion Under the leadership of Arabi-pasha

The initiative against the foreign oppression was taken by army officers led by Ahmed Arabi. The immediate reason for the speech was: a prolonged non-payment of salaries, the sending of soldiers to forced labor and abuse, taking place in the assignment of military officers to officers.

In May 1880, a group of officers headed by Arabi appealed to the Minister of War. Formally, the complaint of the officers was recognized as fair, but the military ministry began an open harassment of officers from the Fellah and en masse raised officers from the upper strata of the Turkish-Circassian nobility. In January 1881, Arabi and his group again petitioned the Council of Ministers. It contained demands for the resignation of the Minister of War and a thorough investigation of the practice of raising officers in the ranks. Under the leadership of Arabi-pasha ...

This petition caused a stir in the Council of Ministers. It was decided to lure Arabi and his supporters into the military ministry, arrest them and judge them by a military court. But the plan was uncovered, the Cairo regiments surrounded the building of the ministry and freed the arrested. The rebel regiments went to the Khedive palace and again demanded the resignation of the military minister and equality in the army. In those times, women and men were not equal. In many cases, women did not have the right to express their opinions. But the compatibility of men and women depended on men.

At the same time, they issued a proclamation explaining what had happened, and repeating their demands. This was already an appeal to public opinion in the capital.

The military minister was dismissed, and a well-known battler and constitutionalist Mahmoud Sami was appointed in his place. A commission was also established with the participation of Arabi to investigate the practice of raising in the army. With these concessions, the Khedive, Tevfik, decided to deceive the insurgents, who initially did not go beyond purely professional demands and did not try to make any changes in the governance of the country.

But it was these events that put army officers in front of the political issue and showed them that without major changes in the country's political situation, it is impossible to achieve any improvement. During this period Arabi-pasha is coming together with many political figures, representatives of the national intelligentsia.

The government tried to settle the conflict peacefully, it became timely to pay the salaries to the officers and pretended to establish a fair order in the appropriation of ranks.
