Quality mark of the USSR on goods and its history

April 20, 1967 in the USSR was introduced a sign of quality. The purpose of its creation was to increase the efficiency of production and improve the characteristics of goods. The sign of product quality is regulated by GOST 1.9-67 dated April 7, 1967. The right to use it was used by all the republics of the Soviet Union in all branches of the national economy. In the USSR, state commissions carried out certification of the quality of goods and, based on its results, decided on the right to use this stigma. The state mark of quality of the USSR was applied to the most important products, which passed the certification and which is of a mass or serial nature. For the first time it was applied to electric motors produced at the electromechanical plant named after Vladimir Ilyich in Moscow. This event took place on April 22, 1970.

History of the quality mark

Only having the title "Supplier of the Court of His Imperial Majesty", the merchants had the right to supply their products with the royal court. It also made it possible to install the emblem on the trade shields. The title was issued for a period of two years, after which it was required to undergo a repeated procedure to confirm the quality of the products. Pass it by inheritance it was impossible.

Thus, thanks to a kind of prototype, a sign of the quality of the USSR appeared. In Russia, the mark of the supplier of the Court of His Imperial Majesty was put on such kinds of products: marmalade, produced in the factory of A. Abrikosov, confectionery products produced by Adolph Siu (after the Bolshevik factory) and other goods that passed quality evaluation.

Since 1829, in Russia the right to place the royal coat of arms has undergone major changes. Only by participating in major Russian exhibitions and fairs and winning them, one could claim this honorable mark. Merchants and shopkeepers should have absolutely high-quality goods, that is, without complaints. Their experience of participation in such fairs should have been at least eight years.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the carriers of such an honorary title for the supplier were about thirty.

Product Quality

Quality - a set of properties of products that determine its suitability for use. For example, the quality of the car is determined by the indices of safety, reliability, manufacturability and a number of other characteristics to which this type of product corresponds. To determine how good it is, it is necessary to conduct a series of complex and consistent measures to assess it. The solution of these issues in the Soviet Union was entrusted to the All-Union Institute, engaged in scientific research in the field of standardization (VNIIS).

Product Quality Categories

In the Soviet Union, the quality of products was evaluated in three categories of quality: the highest, the first and the second. To the highest was the production, which corresponded and exceeded the world quality standards. The "first category" rating was assigned to goods that were issued in accordance with regulatory and technical documentation. During export deliveries, their production was carried out in accordance with the additional requirements of the exporting countries. The second category was the products that underwent moral wear.

Graphic representation of the quality mark

GOST 1.9-67 [1] regulated the rules for applying and building the very sign of product quality. The brand should have been applied to packaging, to packaging, as well as to the products themselves. Also, the quality mark of the USSR was duplicated in the documentation accompanying the goods, in labels and labels.

The State Attestation Commission on the results of inspections and examinations issued a decision on the right to use the mark by enterprises for different periods of time. As a rule, this term lasted from two to three years.

The picture "The sign of the quality of the USSR" is a modified image of a five-pointed star - the heraldic symbol of the USSR. In this figure at certain angles, with strict observance of dimensional lines, the letter K is inscribed. It means "Quality". The letter has a strict turn by 90 °.

Star in the sign of quality

Some sources treat the image of the star as a symbol of quality. Five corners - a head and four limbs. And also in the image of the star of the sign, there is a connection with the ideogram and the pentagram.

The five-pointed star is known not only as one of the heraldic signs, but also as the oldest symbol-ideogram. You can create it if you connect the same lines at an angle of 36 ° in each of the points. If you extend the lines to the center of the star, so that they come together, you can form a pentagram. For the first time such images were used as far back as 3500 BC. E. Since ancient times, the pentagram is known as a guard against evil.

The presence of a quality mark on the products allowed us to have no doubt both in the characteristics of the goods and in the truth of the producing country. What has a quality mark is made in the USSR.
