"Astral". Reviews: Pros and Cons

James Van (a Malaysian who chose to live in Australia) at one time made a breakthrough and became famous, having first removed the short film "Saw", and then developed this theme in feature-length cinema. And recently the director was carried away by other experiments, releasing several works at once, in which disguised spirits and ghosts appear. This is the "Astral". Reviews about the movie Wang received a variety of - from openly abusive to admiring.

When the spirits were loosened

The essence of the thriller boils down to the fact that the incomprehensible and strange incidents that have moved to the new dwelling of the Lambert couple and their three children are troubling. Things seem to choose themselves, where they lie, now and then the inhabitants frighten different sounds, and their source is unknown. After the son of Renee and Josh Dalton falls into a coma as a result of falling from the attic, parents turn to the help of psychics. It turned out that the boy was not in a coma at all, just his spirit left his body (as explained by a specialist in the field of paranormal Alice) and went to the astral. Josh's comments on such a statement were the most skeptical. But in the end he had to believe and, to return the child, go himself to a dangerous "flight of the soul." The narrative director interrupted the narrative thread at the most interesting place, making the final open.

In search of truth

Two years later the long-awaited "Astral-2" came out on the screens, the reviews about the film again were very different. Someone was bored with the tricks of "intimidation" of the auditorium. Someone was annoyed that the continuation begins almost from the same moment on which the prequel stopped. It turns out that if you did not watch the first part, you will not understand anything in the second part. And someone was happy that in the Astral-2 the authors shed light on the many "dark spots" that the "Astral" sinned. Reviews met and that, they say, the action slipped to "scandalous" and frank farce. Yes, in search of the truth in the sequel included a friend of the deceased Alice and mother Josh Lorrain. And Rene completely lost her head, wondering why in her mother-in-law's house (where the family moved once again) there is no rest from the annoying poltergeist. Meanwhile, in the body of the head of the family, it seems, settled something nasty and malignant. It only pretends to be a loving husband and father, assuring others that there is no reason for panic.

A winning actor's ensemble

Some viewers after watching the creations of Wang frankly admitted that they had not yet thought about the meaning of the word "astral". Their responses were the most laudatory. Separate, warm words were deserved by artists who performed remarkably in both parts of the film. First of all, it's Josh Patrick Wilson (one of James Van's favorite actors, if you look at their general filmography). Appearing in The Phantom of the Opera, Wilson remembered the role of one of the superheroes in The Guardians, based on the complicated ambiguous image he created in Candy, for working in the wonderful film "Like Little Children." His wife Renee played an actress from Australia, Rose Byrne. Her intriguer Alex in "Obsession", Scarlet in the zombie thriller "28 weeks later" proved that this is a talented performer. The role of Lorraine Lambert went to the famous actress Barbara Hershey. From the early masterpieces in which she starred, you can recall Woody Allen's film "Hannah and her sisters", from the later - "The Black Swan" Aronofsky (Barbara played there mother of the main character).

That's it, the Astrology. Reviews reviews, but it's better to look and make up your own opinion about the creation of James Wang.
