Today we want to tell you about your favorite dish and the national heritage of all residents of the UK. If you were fond of reading classical English literature in your childhood , then you probably quite often found lines describing Christmas pudding. And your imagination drew pictures of where the stiff inhabitants of the British Isles are enjoying an unusually delicious dessert with their family. But so far few people imagine what kind of dish is and what its true taste is. In this article we will try to answer the question: "Pudding - what is it?"

The history of the appearance of this dish is lost in the centuries. According to one version, a distant ancestor of pudding was a simple oatmeal porridge, which was cooked on meat broth, bread crumbs, nuts, honey and prunes were added. According to the second, this dish was obtained as a result of attempts to make canned food, when peasants placed boiled meat in dough and added prunes to it. Anyway, but in the 18th century the pudding found the kind that we used to see.

Modern pudding - what is it?

If you've ever tried a dessert that is sold in modern supermarkets, then you hardly have an idea of the true taste of this product. In England, each self-respecting family keeps for centuries a corporate recipe for pudding and prepares it for great holidays, observing all the necessary rituals. In modern cooking, four main types of this dish are distinguished: from flour, from meat and fish, from cereals and from dairy products.

Plum-pudding

The combination of products in the most popular form of pudding is somewhat unusual and can even shock some particularly sensitive Russians. And this is not to mention the way it is cooked. Holiday pudding - what is it? The classic recipe includes about 16 ingredients, but it must be: beef fat, bread, nuts, rum, eggs, dried fruits and spices. All products are mixed in a certain order. The resulting mass is rolled in flour, placed in a cloth and boiled over a slow fire for about four hours. Then the Christmas pudding is cooled and placed in the fridge for several weeks, where it must mature and become firm. True gourmets recognize only the product of a year's aging, but ordinary citizens are waiting for his readiness just a few months. Before serving on the festive table, dessert is poured with rum and set on fire.

Since the extreme recipes of classic English dishes are not always acceptable for traditional Russian cuisine, we want to share with you their adapted options.

This light air dessert with candied fruits can be prepared for breakfast and served with morning tea. To prepare it we will need:

  • 450 grams of a curd of an average degree of fat content.

  • Two tablespoons of flour.

  • Three chicken eggs.

  • Candied fruits and sesame seeds.

  • Mix in a bowl 70 grams of sugar, one large spoonful of flour, two small spoons of starch and some vanillin.

  • Pour a dry mixture of half a glass of milk, enter two eggs and mix well.

  • Heat a half cup of milk on a fire, add the rest of the food to it and cook over low heat until bubbles appear on the surface.

  • Prepare small transparent glasses and put on the bottom of a little grated chocolate. Then pour them into half a milk mixture, again make a layer of chocolate. At this stage, you can add almonds and pieces of biscuits. Pour the second layer of milk, decorate it with chocolate chips on top and put the dessert in the refrigerator for several hours.

Banana pudding

This dessert is unique in that it can be prepared from a minimum of products. However, it does not become less tasty, which you will quickly see when it evaporates from the plates of your guests.

  • Boil a glass of milk in a saucepan, enter into it two tablespoons of sugar and one spoonful of flour.

  • Cook the mixture for about five minutes, without forgetting to stir it.

  • Separate the yolk and add it to the hot milk.

  • After half an hour, when the mixture becomes thick, remove the pan from the heat and allow it to cool.

  • Whisk the protein into a foam and mix it with a future pudding.

  • From a banana make a mash, mix it with milk and vanillin mass.
