The issue of winter storage of hay is relevant for farmers and individuals engaged in breeding livestock and poultry. There are several simple ways of packing hay that do not require a lot of money. One of them is a press.

In the old manner, the dried mown grass is harvested in sheaves. They not only take up a lot of space, but also often spoil. It does not save hay and polyethylene cover. If the sheaf does not get wet on top, it starts from inside.

Where it is more convenient and practical, modern farmers consider, to store hay in compressed form. The mechanism for forming the briquette can be made independently, without resorting to high costs. Most often, a significant part of the necessary materials are in the storerooms or sheds.

The options that appealed to many users, three. Two of them are a metal or wooden case with a folding piston. The third one is a press-rammer, working from the traction of the motoblock.

The easiest to make (no need to conduct welding work) and use, a wooden hay press. His work takes place in four stages. Hay, laid in a box, throwing the press three times, pressed. Then, without removing, bind with string.

Structural features

The mechanism is a large box of wood, which rigidly sits on a frame of thick timber or metal profiles. The box has no roof, but there is a folding door, such as a gate.

A press for hay made of metal or wood is produced. To the back wall of the box is fixed the beam several times the height of the box itself. Two parallel bars are fixed on it. The distance is calculated so that there is an opportunity between them to mount a beam that will make half-turns around its axis. At the second end of the beam is attached the sole of the press. She must make the same half-turns without hindrance.

The shape and area of the sole are calculated by the dimensions of the cross-section of the structure itself. The freedom to move the piston is left 5-8 mm.

On the back of the box, in a convenient place for work, a reel with synthetic twine or a thick fishing line is mounted. On the other hand, two narrow, elongated holes are made on the gate-door. They are needed for the bundle of the resulting briquette.

Hay-baler

This device greatly facilitates the work of the farmer. The baler mechanizes the time-consuming and long-lasting process of collecting dry grass from the fields. Smart unit not only collects, but also rolls hay into tight rolls.

Buy a baler is not difficult. But the factory version is designed for working with an ordinary tractor or its mini version. For small farms that use only motorized blocks, it is not like.

You can build a similar device yourself. Special expenses and forces will not be required.

Such presses for hay with their own hands are made quickly enough, they are coping perfectly with the full cycle of assembling and packing hay. They are able to collect dried rollers on the field, compress and twist the dry grass into a roll.

There are several advantages. Such pick-ups are simple devices, and as a result, they have convenient settings. Do not crumble the grass and do not deform the bales of homemade press for hay. The dimensions of the assembled units allow creating small briquettes, which can be carried and laid by one person.

An insignificant spoon of tar can be recognized only by the lower density of the briquette coming out of the home-made press. Most often this is due to the lack of apparatus for the bundle, which is not installed, so as not to lose the power of the tractor.

Construction of a Hay Collecting Unit

For assembly you will need:

• Skeleton for mounting all the units and the main part of the attachment to the traction apparatus - the frontal;
• Chassis with a rigid base for the press box. Equipped with two wheels for movement around the field;
• A pick-up with a conveyor belt that will collect hay rolls from the field;
• The chamber-casing of the cylindrical form with a press on карданной transfers and a small transmission. This part is made of rollers, a grating that presses hay, a forming steel plate on a rigid spring (in the factory plant instead of it - hydraulics).

Here it is worth noting that the more powerful the motoblock, the more likely it is to reach the required rotation speed of the rollers, the higher the productivity of the assembled unit.

Assembly

Homemade hay press, working from the traction of the motor block, is mounted in several stages:

1. There is a chassis - a base on two pneumatic wheels.
2. It is assembled with a fence and a pick-up with a conveyor belt.
3. Press for hay and a box are mounted as a single independent element. In the bottom of the box are mounted rollers and a grate for hanging the hay. On the spring, in the upper part of the box, a plate is fixed. It presses the already pressed grass before rolling into a roll.
4. Then the drive is assembled. To do this, you need to connect the PTO shaft and the two-speed gearbox, from which a chain drive is sent to the rollers with the transfer belt of the pick-up.
5. On the pick-up device, diameter gears are mounted, slightly larger than on the rollers (to increase the picking speed and press capacity).
