Panel radiators for heating. How to choose radiators for home heating

Currently, you can see the two main types of heating devices, widely used in the process of individual heating systems - they are panel radiators. In the article below, we will study the features of the operation and design of panel devices, consider their technical characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages.

Types of panel radiators

There are several basic features on which it is possible to classify panel steel radiators for heating, we will consider them in more detail.

  1. Depending on the method of connection to the heating system, they can have side or bottom connections. The latter option is used for the installation of heating pipelines in the construction of the floor. The lateral connection is universal, in this case the radiators are connected to the pipelines that pass both in the walls and in the floor.
  2. Depending on the design features, all panel radiators are divided by power - they can be attributed to the 11th, 22nd or 33rd type. In other words, devices of the 11th type are equipped with only one heat exchange panel, the 22nd type with two, and, respectively, the 33rd type with three.
  3. In length, in most cases, all panel-type heating devices are designed in accordance with certain requirements, one of which is a fixed length. It varies from 400 to 2000 mm in increments of 10 mm. That allows you to select a panel radiator for any room.

Advantages

  • Integrity of the structure. This version of the heater is fully operational. You will not need to select the required number of sections and purchase additional fasteners. The design is only fixed on the wall. A connection to pipelines may be made at any convenient time. At the same time, the integrity of the structure has one negative moment - in case of a leak, it will have to be completely replaced.
  • Aesthetics. Panel steel radiators of heating perfectly fit into the interior of any room, since they practically do not attract much attention to their design. For example, if such devices are painted in the color of wallpaper or curtains, then they become almost invisible.
  • Economical. This advantage is due to the high degree of heat transfer and a small volume of coolant. The devices are low-inertia and equipped with a thermostat, which saves about 40% of energy carriers.
  • Good heat dissipation. Panel bimetal radiators have high heat dissipation, and the presence of convectors makes heating appliances made of steel practically indispensable.

disadvantages

  • The material from which panel radiators are made, needs to be used properly, since it has a low corrosion resistance. If air is regularly present in the heating system, there is a need to drain the water, and if there is an abnormal PH, it is advisable to consider other varieties of these devices.
  • For panel radiators of steel is characterized by low resistance to water hammers. To reduce the latter and increase the operating period, use a reducer, which is installed on the input.
  • A steel radiator for home heating requires careful transportation, since very often radiators become unusable when transported improperly.

Heat dissipation

Which heaters have a high heat dissipation? Of course, those that are equipped with a large number of finned elements, as this is how the heating surface increases, resulting in increased heat transfer, and the airflow in the room becomes warmer. On average, this value ranges from 1200 to 1800 W, but it all depends on the overall dimensions of the radiator itself, the model, the thickness of the steel and other options.

Pressure

Panel bimetal radiators are designed for a maximum pressure of 6-10 atmospheres, it can be maintained exclusively in autonomous heating systems, that is, in private houses. In buildings with centralized heating, such devices can not be used, since the pressure there is much higher.

Heat carrier

This parameter for panel radiators made of steel is, perhaps, a weak link. Despite the fact that manufacturers try to cover the internal surfaces with various anticorrosive compounds, the liquid circulating in the centralized heating system and saturated with various additives will have its negative impact at any moment. It contributes to surface damage and summer drainage from the pipelines of liquid. At this moment, the internal part of the heater becomes available to the air - that's exactly at this time and there comes a "holiday" for corrosion.

In this regard, panel heating radiators (the price depends on their manufacturer and specifications and can vary from 3,500 to 50,000 rubles) are more suitable for private houses, where the coolant remains in the heating system during the summer period. For panel radiators made of steel, the temperature limit is +120 ºC.

Dimensions of devices

Various manufacturers produce these heating appliances of different sizes. At the same time, the maximum permissible length can reach three meters, the height of the largest can not be more than 90 cm, the smallest - 20 cm. It's another matter when it comes to tubular radiators: they can be not only completely unthinkable, but also length. They can be made even semicircular.

Center Distance

Given that the panel heating radiators (Russia) can be connected to the heating system in various ways, their interaxial distance is important only if the lateral method has been selected. The distance between the axes indicates the location of the upper header in relation to the lower one. Different models of these instruments can have different values of the interaxial distance.

Connectivity

Connection to the heating network of panel radiators can be done from the bottom, from the side or in a combined way. On the effectiveness of devices, this does not pay much attention. It is preferable to use the lower connection, since in this variant the pipelines are less noticeable, and this is an important factor for the interior of the room.

A universal or combined method of connecting panel devices of various types is that the design provides two openings - from the side and from the bottom, which allows you to stop the selection on the most optimal version of the pipeline installation and its wiring.

Thickness of steel

This parameter is the most important, because it affects the efficiency of heating, as well as how long the panel radiators will be. The characteristics of these devices directly depend on the thickness of the metal used for their manufacture. As a rule, the thickness of steel is in the range from 1.15 to 1.25 mm. Since the difference is insignificant, the ordinary consumer can not determine by eye what thickness of steel is used in a particular model. But the more this indicator, the more qualitative the device will be. The buyer must carefully study the technical passport of the product, where this parameter will be indicated.

Staining of steel panels

Steel panel heating devices have a small anti-corrosion protection, so in the production of special attention is paid to the staining of steel. In most cases, the main reason for the failure of steel panel radiators is poor-quality painting of the product.

To purchase a quality heater that can serve for several decades, special attention should be given to the paint layer, which must necessarily consist of primer, thermal curing, as well as the outer layer of paint.

With special attention it is necessary to inspect the inside of the panel radiator, on which, as a rule, manufacturers save. If the layers do not differ in color and are uniform, then the coloration was performed qualitatively.

Now you know what panel radiators are, in what conditions they can be used, and how to properly select these heating devices.
