LawRegulatory Compliance

Overtaking is easy if you follow the rules. Rules of traffic rules: overtaking

Overtaking is the most important topic in the traffic rules. Strictly speaking, any topic needs to be learned, since everything that is in the rules will later be useful in practical driving. Therefore, it is worth to tell about how the overtaking is carried out, where it is prohibited, and also about everything else that may concern this topic.

Definition

I would like to start with terminology. So, overtaking is an advance of a vehicle (one or several at once), which is directly connected with the departure to the oncoming lane. After the maneuver is carried out, the driver returns.

Still there is a second term. And this is an advance. Many often confuse him with overtaking. What is the meaning of this concept? Here everything is as simple as possible. An advance is a process in which the driver of a particular vehicle moves at a speed that is higher than that of the other passing trucks. If to express themselves in other words - it's just a situation when the car "bypasses" its neighbor. At the same time, the driver is not rebuilt on the oncoming lane, so this maneuver is considered much safer. Therefore, the terms are not to be confused. Overtaking is one thing, and advancing is another.

The first thing to learn

In the 11th chapter of the rules of the road, everything that is connected with overtaking is described in great detail. And the first thing the SDA book teaches is that before a maneuver begins, the driver must make sure that the lane where he intends to leave is free. He must calculate if he has enough time, and how high is the probability that during the course of his actions, a car will not appear on the oncoming lane. It is very important. Many drivers do not comply with this rule, and the result, as a rule, is deplorable. It is because of this that most accidents and deaths occur due to an accident. Because two cars that "walked" at high speeds and collided with front bumpers - these are usually victims.

All this creates a law that says: if in the circumstances described above there is an accident, then in the incident, the fault always lies with the person who initiated the overtaking. This is logical and quite understandable. After all, it was the driver who did not calculate everything in advance, and began the maneuver without thinking about the consequences and simply did not wait.

Golden Rule number 2

Another point that you need to learn by heart, reading the topic "Overtaking". SDA reads: the driver of the car, which they intend to overtake, should not raise the speed at the given moment. It is recommended to lower it, on the contrary. Because otherwise the time that will have to be spent for maneuvering increases. Accordingly, it will be longer to go on the opposite lane, and this, at least - a few tens of meters. It is not necessary to specify what it is fraught with.

Prohibitions

In addition to the above, there are many nuances that must also be taken into account. Overtaking is prohibited, for example, in cases where a vehicle in front is ahead of someone else or is trying to get around an obstacle. You can not proceed to this maneuver if the car that was driving along the same lane gave a turn signal.

Also, a person, before starting to take action to commit an action, must look into the rear mirror. Because it may well be possible that the car that drove after him, too, decided to overtake. SDA in such cases say that you need to wait, reduce the speed (or at least not exceed) and only then, once again having checked everything, to do it.

And, of course, one more nuance. Overtaking is prohibited if the driver understands that after the completion of the maneuver he will not be able to return to his lane without creating obstacles for other vehicles (including, for the overtaken). A lot of motorists forget these simple provisions, because of what they fall into accidents.

Speed issues

The overtaking rules also dictate certain provisions concerning how fast it is necessary to move the driver who intends to make the said maneuver. This nuance is also important.

It is impossible to proceed to action if the speed at which the machine moves is not enough. Let's say that the vehicle ahead has a speedometer of 85 km / h. If the person wishing to overtake him, accelerates only to 80 km / h - in no case can not begin to act. Even if he went around his strips for a few kilometers in speed, he should not take risks. So, for example, if he managed to accelerate to 90 km / h, then in order to perform a full overtaking, it will take 180 meters. And the oncoming lane should be free for 360 meters. Why so? It's simple. 180 meters is needed for a person engaged in a maneuver, and another for the same vehicle. This is the only way to avoid a collision.

The rules of overtaking say - if a person is catching up ahead of the car going too slowly, it is better to abandon the plan. Since, after completing the action, the driver will automatically create a hindrance to the car that has just surpassed. And it is possible that he also decides to go for overtaking. In general, in this case, you need high speed - it needs to be learned.

Where it is impossible to do a maneuver?

Overtaking is forbidden in many places. Firstly - at regulated and unregulated intersections (if a person is moving on the wrong road, which is the main one).

Secondly, overtaking on a pedestrian crossing is also strictly prohibited. Railway crossings (and the distance 100 meters before them), bridges, overpasses, tunnels (and also under them), the end of the climb, dangerous turns, areas where visibility is limited - in all listed places it can not be done.

There are certain situations with a crossroads, in which you can overtake the ahead TS. First, it should not be regulated. Secondly, there must be a sign of the main road before the intersection . Additional plates should not be (except for the characters numbered from 2.3.1 to 2.3.7). This means that you can make a maneuver, if only the main road does not change its direction at this intersection.

It is also worth noting that earlier rules were allowed to overtake on pedestrian crossings if it was empty. But now everything has changed, and from now on this action is prohibited even in the event that this section of the road is empty.

Dangerous places

In more detail it is worthwhile to tell about those sections of the road, where maneuvering not only threatens fine, but also life. So, bridges, overpasses, overpasses and tunnels, are as dangerous as the oncoming lane. Overtaking, respectively, there should not be any.

In general, some bridges are sometimes built in such a way that they are unrealistic to see from afar. And many drivers, hurrying, start overtaking and, as a result, finish it on the bridge, where the passage is difficult. By the way, usually there are appropriate indexes. The overtaking sign is numbered as 3.20. To learn it is simple - it shows two cars, the left one of which is highlighted in red. Everything is clear, there is no need to explain the meaning.

More about Signs

But when a person sees the pointer 3.26, you can relax and proceed, having checked everything in advance, to maneuver. This sign looks like the same 3.20, only both cars are gray, and crossed obliquely with five lines. This means the cancellation of the ban.

Dangerous turns and do not need any signs - they can be seen and so. However, according to the rules, they are set at 1.14, 1.11.1, 1.11.2. Having seen these signs, you need not only to delay with the maneuver, but also to reduce the speed (except for a steep rise).

And, finally, if visibility is limited in some area (the road is such, or there are some structures, or the terrain may be specific), then overtaking is also prohibited. In such situations it is better to go as carefully as possible and be as careful as possible. And, as it was already possible to notice, not so many signs need to be remembered. There are only two - one prohibition indicator, and the second - cancellations, and they meet consistently. The second - after some distance after the first.

Provisions of the Code

Finally it is worth noting that there is no separate article or punishment for illiterate overtaking. But there is the 12th chapter of the Code on Administrative Violations. There, in the fourth part, it is said that going to the oncoming lane or on the tram tracks (naturally, also on the opposite direction) is punishable by a fine. Its size is five thousand rubles. The penalty for overtaking, as can be seen, is not small. Also, the driver may be deprived of his rights. The term is usually 4-6 months. For many people, thus losing their driver's license is the worst punishment, because many say that it's better to get a penalty for overtaking.

It should be noted that under this article punish those drivers who have made overtaking in the wrong place. That is, where there were no permissive signs.

Many people are interested in - and can "exchange" the punishment? Instead of not paying a fine? No, everything depends here only from the traffic police. Fine? So it will be so. The case will be brought to court? Most likely, there is a threat of deprivation of rights, but there, at the hearing, it will be possible to try to solve this problem and justify itself.

Maneuvering places

Much has been said about where it is impossible to overtake. And what about where it can be? These places must also be listed. The so-called oncoming crossing is allowed to be carried out on two-lane highways. There, the center line looks like an intermittent markup.

Still it can be done on that road, where there are only three bands. And they should also have intermittent lines. And, of course, under the permissive category there are roads where there are only two bands, and marking is combined. There overtaking is allowed. But not all places have the appropriate signs, because all this is desirable to remember. Excess will not be.

What is not overtaking?

At the very beginning it was said that many people are confused in the definitions of "overtaking" and "leading". Now we should explain everything with examples.

Overtaking, occurring within the same band, is not considered overtaking. Because, if there is no intersection of the horizontal marking - this was not the oncoming trip. Another overtaking can not be called a lead that does not go beyond the right half of the road. That is, on the oncoming lane the car also does not leave.

And, finally, one more thing is the vehicle's advance, in which the person went to the oncoming lane, but did not return to the side of the passing traffic. Turned, for example.

So, if you remember all of the above, you can safely perform overtaking. The main thing is to remember the rules.
