OSB plate: characteristics and application

It scarcely needs to be said that not all have been able to build private houses in recent years. So, with the cost of a brick approaching that of some space materials, it is difficult to build a really reliable, but not very expensive house.

What is this material?

Surely you are familiar with all sorts of chipboards, the mass production of which was established almost a hundred years ago. The impetus was the discovery of epoxy resins, which, in combination with chips, allowed to make a good building material actually from garbage.

But over time, it quickly became clear that their characteristics are far from perfect. Thus, the resin isolated formaldehyde, and the plates themselves could not stand a long contact with water, completely unsuitable for the role of exterior decoration materials.

Taking care of people's health

Then the OSB plate appeared, the characteristics of which were completely different. To begin with, it is absolutely safe for health. This is facilitated by the fact that special resins are used for their production, which do not contain formaldehyde.

Water resistance

These same polymer compositions of the new generation provide the plates with such high water resistance that they can be used for the construction of various sandwich panels, which are in great demand today in the construction of inexpensive and high-quality country cottages.

Strength

But this is not so known OSB plate! Its characteristics are so good that, by its strength, it yields little to even a natural tree. How did this happen?

The fact is that in Russian its abbreviation can be translated as "oriented-stranded". If you expand this concept more broadly, it turns out that the chips and wood fibers that are used in its production are not laid "anyhow", but with a certain calculation.

Thus, the upper and lower layers have a stacking of chips, parallel to the axis of the material, and inside is a layer of perpendicularly oriented chips. Due to this OSB plate, the characteristics of which we study, can easily be applied even in the laying of floors in buildings, the load on which is not too high.

Durability

If you dealt with hardboard and chipboard, you know perfectly well that the old sofa, which was only ten years old, standing on the open veranda for only a couple of years, begins to literally fall apart. After that, our fellow citizens did not at first believe that the OSB plate, the technical characteristics of which made it so popular all over the world, is somewhat different from them.

And in vain! Even with outdoor use in Canadian conditions (which are not too different from ours), the OSB plate retains its properties for many years without destroying it, without being covered with a fungus.

Of course, for such difficult places, the OSB cooker is more moisture resistant. Its price is about 800 rubles per sheet. This allows it to recommend even to those builders whose budget is quite limited.
