Orthostatic hypotension

Orthostatic hypotension is not an independent disease. This condition is characterized by the inability of the vessels to maintain normal blood pressure. Symptom can be caused by a variety of reasons.

When a person stands up, the action of gravity can cause blood to accumulate in the body.
Organs located in the lower part of the body and the veins of the legs. This causes a decrease
The amount of blood returned to the heart. As a result, postural hypotension causes a drop in blood pressure. The heart begins to beat more often, the capacity of the blood vessels becomes less because of their sharp narrowing.

Orthostatic hypotension in most cases is an adverse reaction to taking medications prescribed for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in the elderly. For example, diuretics taken in large doses, can reduce the amount of blood, removing excess moisture from the body. Sometimes a symptom may occur after taking a single dose of nitroglycerin. Channel channel blockers, nitrates and ATPP inhibitors, in contrast, increase vascular capacity, which can lead to a drop in blood pressure.

Orthostatic hypotension can also occur as a result of severe bleeding or significant fluid loss in the body - Addison's disease, diabetes, diarrhea and vomiting. Some medicines, drugs for the treatment of depression and hypertension, alcohol and barbiturates suppress nerve endings in the arteries, resulting in orthostatic hypotension. This is an important clinical symptom for serious spinal injuries, somatic and neurological diseases. The pathology is expressed, first of all in sudden fainting and falling.

Arterial pressure in especially severe cases can fall to zero. Mild cases of a presyncope are called lipotypes. Arterial hypotension, whose treatment is mostly symptomatic, is manifested by a premonition of loss of consciousness, dizziness and a feeling of faintness.

Patients complain of noise in the ears, sweating, darkening in the eyes and general weakness. Also, the pallor of the skin, taking a waxy shade, is noted. Duration of attacks of a lipotomy makes an order of 3-6 seconds.

In more severe cases, symptoms of light psychosensory disorders may appear, with Shoja-Draiger syndrome attacks last for several minutes. The most severe forms of orthostatic hypotension lead to death. Severe forms of the disease are characterized by rapid fainting. In patients, the pupils are dilated, muscular diffuse hypotension, tongue and eyeball westernization, pulse is threadlike. The severity of the symptoms largely depends on the duration and depth of the postural attack.

The prognosis of the course of the disease is unfavorable, the prerequisites for ischemic damage to the brain and internal organs are created. To death lead mainly acute disorders of cerebral circulation. Hypotension can
Be a symptom of aortic stenosis, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia and myocardial infarction.

With an easy degree of disease, non-drug therapy is provided, which includes strengthening the muscles of the legs and the press, exercises aimed at adapting the vessels. Sleep is recommended with a raised head. It is necessary to observe a diet with a high content of potassium, wear elastic leg jersey. In severe cases, pacemaker implantation is performed, with antidepressants, adrenoblockers and mineralocorticoids prescribed for the average course of the disease. Diagnosis and treatment of hypotension are conducted jointly by a therapist and a cardiologist.
