Oorten - a mountain, about which legends go

Inaccessible mountains of the Urals have always attracted the attention of tourists, because they are associated with many ancient traditions. Traveling in a risky journey of brave souls is not afraid of unfavorable nature and harsh climate. Mother Nature has created amazing masterpieces, the beauty of which kills on the spot.

The place is beautiful, but dangerous

Uninviting for the guests mountains with unbuilt tourist routes are little studied, but the more interesting they are for travelers. On the Ural ridge, there is no place more beautiful than the considered anomalous zone of Oorten. The mountain that took the lives of people is known not only to climbers: a lot of material has been written about and written about the peak with an evil reputation.

Traditions of the mountain

The fact is that at different times and under mysterious circumstances people died here. Local residents say that at the top, the name of which translates as "do not go there," terrible things happened. The shamans, to cajole the spirits, brought bloody sacrifices. The goddess of death, living on the mountain, accepted nine living beings into her arms, however, after the ritual killing of birds and animals, a tragic event took place that took the lives of Mansi hunters.

The mysterious mountain of Oorten, legends about which go for several hundred years, seemed to taste good: contemporaries know about 27 dead in the vicinity of a mystic place full of mysticism. The people of Mansi consider the nine the sacred number opening the door to the world of spirits, and I am sure that this is the symbol of both the end of life and its revival.

The tragedy, the causes of which are still unknown

In 1959, the public was agitated by the news that bodies of experienced tourists were found on the slopes of the mountain, not the first time they went on a hike. The circumstances of the death of young people to this day have not been clarified, although there are many versions that explain the reasons for their mysterious death.

Anyway, but again nine lives were taken by the notorious mountain Oorten.

Where is the anomalous zone?

The places named the Ural Alps are between the Sverdlovsk Region and the Republic of Komi. The most beautiful corner that attracts travelers can rightly be called a natural miracle. At the foot of the summit there is a picturesque dwarf forest, and from its height opens an amazing view of the playful colors of the valley of the river Lozva. Here is a five-meter stone ridge, the slope of which leads to the transparent lake Lunthusaptur.

Two vertices

The path to this peak passes through the notorious Diatlov Pass. Tourists are attracted by the echoes of the tragedy that took place 57 years ago and the fantastically beautiful views that Oterten is famous for.

"Mountain of the Dead" - Holatchahl - is located to the north, and enters the ridge of the Stone Belt. These are the two peaks that the tourists from the Djatlov group wanted to conquer. Even the names of the mountains say that they should be avoided, but young and healthy tourists only laughed at local folklore.

Kara of the gods?

In 1959, over the North Urals, the Mansi observed a strange phenomenon: they approached the ground, then the bright fireballs, clearly visible on the dark background of the sky, soared upward. Residents in alarm watched the unusual picture and considered it the wrath of the gods for the people who came to conquer Oorten. The mountain did not give up the body, although hundreds of volunteers were looking for them.

And after the dead were found deadly by horrible death, terrible rumors began circulating around the local villages about the ruthless war that the gods had declared to earthly beings who had attempted to invade the forbidden territory.

Reconstruction of the notorious hike

The trip to the Urals was for a long time planned by the experienced leader Igor Dyatlov, who dreamed of taking a route of the highest complexity. The group had to overcome about 350 kilometers on skis and conquer two peaks, of which terrible legends went.

What made the group go to Ottten? The mountain, which local hunters do not even look at due to a bad reputation, is shrouded in secrets and mysticism. Perhaps this also spurred the students and graduates of the institute, who knew about the cursed number and who were very skeptical of village superstitions.

Ten tourists prepared in a difficult way, but before the start of the campaign one of them withdrew from the distance.

On a cold January day, nine people went up the hill, experiencing all the "delights" of the local climate: the wind that had knocked off the feet made it impossible for them to walk, and the swirling snow stuck to their faces, not allowing anything to see around. Woodpeckers make the decision to spend the night in tents, in order to lead the group next morning. He is winged and waiting for tomorrow with enthusiasm, because in front of him will open his secrets Mount Oorten.

Death of the group Dyatlov

However, the tourists did not leave for the appointed time, and rescue measures were immediately organized. Three long weeks went searching for the missing group until a tent left by the people in the strongest frost was found. There were traces of students running down, as if disoriented or blinded. In the snow, the frozen bodies of six young people who died from hypothermia were found, and the death of three more came from severe injuries incompatible with life.

The circumstances of the tragedy were concealed even from close relatives, who were informed of the death from hypothermia, and all the results of the investigation were classified. From autopsy specialists who discovered a small amount of radioactive material on clothing samples, nondisclosure subscriptions were taken.

Scientists who had a great public outcry were killed by the group. They were interested in what drove people to run out into the cold frost in undressed and under cover of night. The main version was the descent of a snow avalanche that killed the students. However, there are also the most fantastic versions explaining the tragedy, which is devoted to about twenty documentary films and television programs.

The new name appeared on the map

About it the constant reminder is the modest obelisks in the cemeteries of Yekaterinburg, and on the map appeared a new name - Pass Djatlova. Mount Oorten does not stop taking human lives. Earlier this year, Permian tourists discovered the body of a man who died from hypothermia. It is believed that the traveler went alone in the footsteps of the expedition to unravel the mystery, and froze.

Route for the bold

Now for the brave people a tourist route "Ivdel - Pass Djatlova - Mount Ooterten", which is a memorable journey, was developed. From the northernmost city of the Sverdlovsk Region, tourists are picked up by a helicopter, which will take them to a colorful Mansi village and to the famous pass. You can independently reach the mountain in the following way: to arrive in Yekaterinburg, and from it by train or by a passing car to Ivdel, from which off-road vehicles go to the village of Ushma. It is from there that the pedestrian route begins through the famous Dyatlov Pass. Several hours of road, and tourists are encircled by the mysterious mountain of Otorten.
