Batteries AA and other power sources for digital technology

Most digital devices today are powered by battery power. This is what makes them mobile and convenient. Photo and video equipment is no exception. Disposable batteries (primary chemical sources), in spite of their availability and cheapness, are inferior in use to batteries (secondary chemical sources) that withstand many charge cycles. To properly choose the power source for your equipment, you need to know a few basic points about them.

Types of batteries

1. Special batteries

Batteries can be built-in, that is, the manufacturer makes a battery that fits, for example, to one model line only its brand. Here lies the main disadvantage. In view of the uniqueness of such batteries, they can be found only in specialized stores, the price for them is quite high, and for long walks it is better to have a spare power source. In addition, many brands make their models not for standard AA batteries, so it's not necessary to choose a user. And the definition of parameters such as capacity or voltage is also not required. Everything is balanced by the long life of such batteries, for a couple of years you do not remember about this problem.

2. Finger batteries (AA, AAA)

Another type of battery, as already mentioned, are finger cells. The most commonly used sizes are AA and AAA. Such batteries are used in inexpensive technology and in SLR cameras (but very rarely). In professional models, "fingers" are used together with a mini-transformer - a booster - it stabilizes the voltage and power supply. Batteries (AA, AAA) have a significant difference - capacitance and output voltage.

Capacity - a value that determines the life of the source - the charge that this source can give. The time of the photo and video cameras depends on this. The most used in photographic equipment elements have a capacity of 1500-3200 mAh.

The output voltage ensures the inclusion of your device, and if its value is small, then this battery does not suit you, you need to choose a more powerful one. Otherwise, the camera or camera will not turn on.

To determine the quality of the battery in the market or in the store is possible only with the help of a tester, marking on the product does not always correspond to reality. So it's not worth saving, it's better to choose AA batteries for cameras from already well-known manufacturers.

3. Chemical composition

Distinguish between batteries and chemical composition. The cheapest are the alkaline elements, but they have such a disadvantage as the memory effect. This means that before charging the battery requires a maximum discharge, otherwise constant recharging significantly shortens its service life. Such elements in expensive brands are almost no longer used, they remained only as AA batteries. In addition, such elements require the chargers, which must have a function of full discharge.

The most popular today, despite its value, lithium batteries: Li-Ion and Li-Pol. They have no memory effect, they have a relatively small weight. The most important thing is a high production rate - more than 1000 discharge / charge cycles. But one should not allow their full discharge (as in alkaline).

If the shape of the battery compartment allows and there are no contraindications in the manual, alkaline batteries (AA, AAA) can be replaced with suitable lithium batteries . The choice of a particular device depends on your preferences and the conditions in which the technique will be used, and, of course, on your budget.
