Oleg Deripaska is known as an aluminum magnate and one of the richest people not only in Russia, but also in the world. About what kind of person he is, what kind of life he has lived and how he achieved what he has, we will talk in this article.

Carier start

Oleg Deripaska, whose name invariably appears among the richest people of the fatherland, and in 2008 even headed this list, was born in 1968 on January 2 in the city of Dzerzhinsk, which is located in the Gorky region. In 1985 he entered the Physics Department at Moscow State University. He stops his studies for military service, but after that he graduates high school, while doing business in parallel. The company in which he started his career was called the Military Investment and Trading Company. Oleg Deripaska held the post of financial director in it. Some sources claim that it was this place that helped him to establish connections that made it possible to achieve significant success in the future. One way or another, but in 1992 he became the general director of Rosaluminproduct, and in the same year he registered two more aluminum companies - in Krasnoyarsk and Samara. Oleg graduated from the University of Deripaska only in 1993.

Second education

After graduation, Oleg Deripaska supported the process of active privatization of the Sayan aluminum plant. And in November 1994 he took the seat of the General Director of SAZ. Then he submitted documents to the Moscow Institute of National Economy, which is now known as the Academy of National Economy. The second education he was advised to get, according to available information, is the former Prime Minister Oleg Soskovets. Oleg Deripaska received his diploma in 1996.

AKB Sayany

A year earlier, that is, in 1995, SAZ purchased shares of the bank "Sayany" - at that time the largest of its kind in Khakassia. This allowed Oleg Vladimirovich to enter the board of his directors. A year later, just after graduation, Deripaska made efforts to have the bank declared bankrupt.

Policy

1995-1996, in addition to the events described, were noted by the increased interest in the policy, which began to manifest Deripaska. Oleg Vladimirovich provided financial assistance to the liberal-democratic party during the 1995 State Duma elections. And in Khakassia he supported Alexei Lebed, contributing to his election to the post of head of the republic. The latter after his victory included in the list of government officials some people from SAZ.

Ousting competitors

The Sayan aluminum plant developed quite successfully, as did Oleg Vladimirovich's personal career. For example, by the end of 1997, he got rid of the other leading shareholders of the plant, ousting them with the help of an additional issue of shares. At the same time, he transferred a significant share of the shares to state ownership. This step, which saved him from competitors in dividing the pie, was a risky venture, as dissatisfied partners could not reconcile themselves with such a turn of affairs. To protect himself, Oleg Deripaska began riding an armored car with security guards.

Expansion of enterprises

1998 was for Oleg Vladimirovich an important purchase - he bought the Samara Metallurgical Company. Restructuring and reducing the number of jobs helped to put the company on its feet. However, it was formally declared bankrupt, after which a new Samara Metallurgical Plant started work on the basis of Sameko . The development of the enterprise was proceeding successfully, the production volumes were steadily growing. A little later, Governor of Samara Konstantin Titov, with whom Deripaska had friendly relations, helped him in the acquisition of Aviakor. Once this enterprise was one of the leading in the state in the field of aviation, but by the time of purchase it was on the verge of ruin.

Aluminum Empire

In 1999 Oleg Vladimirovich took the place of the president of the enterprise "Siberian Aluminum". A year later he took up active cooperation with Roman Abramovich. Two businessmen combined part of their assets in the holding company, as a result of which "Russian Aluminum" was registered, in which Deripaska got the place of the general director. The whole of 2001, Oleg was engaged in the fact that he actively bought shares of aluminum enterprises throughout the country. Taking thus more than nine plants under control, he decided to restructure the business in order to bypass antitrust restrictions. In the end, six independent companies were created on their basis.

Completion of partnership with Abramovich

The company "Siberian aluminum", which was headed by Deripaska, was in 2001 renamed the "Basic Element". A year later, he bought from Abramovich his stake in Ruspromavto, and by 2004 - half of the shares in Rusal. Thus, "Sibal" became the owner of GAZ, and the partnership relations between Deripaska and Roman Abramovich came to an end.

Development of automotive business

From that moment, enterprising Deripaska began to consolidate various enterprises operating in the automotive industry around the Gorky Automobile Plant. Altogether, there were about two dozen companies, merged into the open joint-stock company "Russian Machines". In the car industry, Deripaska quickly entered the international level and almost bought a huge stake in Magna International, the world's largest Canadian automotive components manufacturer. The assets were eventually bought by the Americans, but Rusmash stated that it still does not intend to abandon its intentions. In addition, Deripaska acquired licenses for the production of some foreign cars and completely bought out the British automobile plant LDV Holdings.

Return to policy

May 2005 was marked by the fact that Oleg Deripaska announced his intention to run for the State Duma. The press even wrote that he was going to occupy the governor's seat. However, the rumors turned out to be false, and nothing was done in this respect by Oleg Vladimirovich.

The merger of "Rusal"

A significant step to expand its business was made by Deripaska in 2006, when he agreed with Viktor Vekselberg, the head of the Siberian-Ural Aluminum Company, about the merger. As a result, Rusal merged its assets with this enterprise, in addition, the transaction involved the Swiss company Glencore. Two-thirds of the combined company went to Deripaska, and the company's annual turnover amounted to $ 12 billion.

Attempt to enter the oil business

Since 2007, Deripaska has made unsuccessful attempts to take over the oil company RussNeft. The case was that for tax evasion, a criminal case was initiated against the head of this company, as a result of which he wanted to get rid of the enterprise and quit the business. The agreement on the sale was reached and the deal was almost completed. However, the shares of RussNeft were arrested, and the Federal Antimonopoly Service did not allow the deal to take place. As a result, Deripaska returned to 2010 the control of the enterprise in the hands of its former owner.

The state of Deripaska

On the state of Oleg Vladimirovich there are legends. In 2008, he was recognized as the richest man in Russia and 9th in the world. Then Forbes magazine estimated its property at 28 billion dollars. Oleg Deripaska, whose biography abounds with serious turns and rapid dynamics, lost a significant part of his funds during the world crisis. Therefore, later estimates of his condition differed significantly. The press was much more modest than before, from $ 3.5 billion to $ 16.8 billion.

Crime

Like any businessman from the 90's, Deripaska has a reputation as an entrepreneur, closely connected with criminal structures. However, he was not charged with any accusations in Russia. However, not so long ago there was an incident in Spain, where local authorities accused him of supporting the Russian mafia and laundering money for 4 million euros. The case was later transferred to the Russian prosecutor's office, where it was safely jammed.

Charity

Deripaska is the owner of one of the largest charitable foundations in Russia, "Freestyle", which contains its own funds. To date, the fund has conducted more than 500 programs, during which more than 10 billion rubles were spent.

Personal life

Oleg Deripaska and his women are not the most interesting part of his biography, because there is nothing special about it. In fact, only one lady is known to be close to Oleg. Her name is Polina - this is the legitimate wife of Oleg Deripaska. There are no reliable information about other favorites of the businessman. Marriage with Pauline took place in 2001. And she herself is the daughter of the former head of the government Valentin Yumashev, with whom Oleg Vladimirovich Deripaska has become related through this union. The real name of his wife, thus, is Yumashev. They met at a reception with Roman Abramovich during the partnership between the two businessmen. Oleg's father-in-law later married a daughter of Boris Yeltsin. Therefore Oleg's family and the family of the late ex-president are Oleg's relatives. Deripaska at one time was plunged into a scandal over the divorce from Pauline in connection with her novel with Alexander Mamut. However, the couple denied all these rumors. Now Oleg's children are growing up: Deripaska Peter, born in 2001, is a son. And daughter Maria, who was born two years later. Sometimes in the media space there are questions about what the real name is, which is Deripaska Oleg Vladimirovich. His real name, however, is Deripaska. It occurs from the old Russian word "derebenitsya", which means "scratching", "beating". In addition, the so-called thistles were called on the territory of Ukraine for thorns. Later this word served as the nickname of agitators for collective farming, which was given to them by well-to-do peasants-kulaks.
