Ointment "Erythromycin" is an antibiotic and is dispensed only by prescription. The main active substance that is part of this drug is erythromycin, and ancillary - anhydrous lanolin, sodium pyrosulfite and petroleum jelly. Ointment is a homogeneous mass of brownish-yellow or yellow color.

The antibiotic erythromycin belongs to the group of macrolides, it acts bacteriostatically. This substance actively fights against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, chlamydia, etc. Ointment "Erythromycin" is intended only for topical application and, when properly used, has a fairly low systemic absorption.

Indications for the use of this ointment

This remedy is intended for the treatment of eye diseases such as bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, trachoma, bacterial keratitis, and also it is used for infected wounds, pustular lesions of the skin, pressure ulcers and burns of 2-3 degrees.

Also, the drug "Erythromycin" in tablets is used in the treatment of diphtheria, pertussis, brucellosis, legionnaires, angina, scarlet fever, otitis, sinusitis, cholecystitis, pneumonia, gonorrhea and syphilis.

Do not use this tool if the patient has a hypersensitivity to its components, as well as severe violations in the liver.

Currently, the effect of the drug ointment "Erythromycin" on women breastfeeding and pregnant women, has not been fully studied. If the doctor decides that the drug is needed to treat pregnant women or children, then in such cases, the drug "Erythromycin-TAT" is prescribed, which is taken only under close medical supervision.

Ointment "Erythromycin" - instruction

Ointment should be applied to the lower eyelid up to three times a day. In the presence of purulent diseases, pus and necrotic masses are first removed, and then the "Erythromycin" ointment is applied one to two times throughout the day, and in the treatment of burns 2-3 times during the week.

Side effects

After applying the ointment, skin redness and itching may appear. If the drug is used for a long time, it is possible to develop a secondary infection, which is usually caused by microorganisms resistant to erythromycin.

Cases of overdose with this ointment are not registered.

The use of this drug is unacceptable with chloramphenicol, clindamycin and lincomycin. If the ointment "Erythromycin" is applied together with abrasive substances that lead to skin irritation, or with agents that cause increased skin peeling, then a cumulative irritating or drying effect may appear.

If you take other anti-acne preparations, it should take at least an hour before applying them. If the erythromycin ointment did not help acne for a month and the acne does not go away, you should consult a doctor, but it takes up to 3 months to get the full therapeutic effect.

In the prevention of ophthalmia of newborns, there is no need to wash out the ointment from the child's eye. If the mother has clinically pronounced gonorrhea, then children who are given erythromycin as an ophthalmic agent, apply the ointment together with an aqueous solution of penicillin G, intended for parenteral use.

The drug is suitable for use for 3 years, and it should be stored at a temperature of 15 - 25 ° C.
