With chronic nonspecific catarrhal conjunctivitis, rapid eye fatigue is observed, and it is worse by evening. In the morning usually mucous lumps are allocated. They can wither.

Pneumococcal conjunctivitis is characterized by an acute onset. On the conjunctiva of the eyelids, whitish-gray films appear. They can easily be removed with a damp fleece. The loose tissue of the conjunctiva is exposed, it does not bleed.

There is also diphtheria, gonococcal, epidemic conjunctivitis. It is very unpleasant trachoma, when the inflammatory process passes to the cornea, and also there are scars on the conjunctiva. Reduces visual acuity.

Bacterial conjunctivitis: causes

- Systemic infections;

- Reduced immunity, etc.

Diagnosis of conjunctivitis is carried out after consultation of an ophthalmologist and infectious disease specialist. In the laboratory, you can conduct a culture method, analysis of tears, cytological evaluation by Gramm and Romanovsky. Differential diagnosis is carried out with uveitis, keratitis, trauma, glaucoma.

Bacterial conjunctivitis: treatment

The choice of antibiotics is determined by the type of pathogen. In diphtheria and pneumococcal conjunctivitis, treatment is performed in a hospital. The remaining cases are amenable to treatment.

Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis: general principles

- Flushing of the conjunctiva;

- Antibiotic therapy;

- NSAIDs are topical;

- Antiallergic agents;

- Glucocorticosteroids;

- Antihistamines and vasoconstrictors;

- Sanitation of the focus of infection;

- For diphtheria conjunctivitis, the administration of a special serum. In general, this type requires immediate medical attention, as it is fraught with the development of serious complications and is very contagious. You can not prescribe yourself drops and ointments - you can aggravate the situation by improper selection of drugs. Do not rub your eyes, change your handkerchief more often, take yourself a separate towel (or better buy disposable napkins).

It is important to know that proper diagnosis is very important in order to prescribe the right drugs. If you break the regime of procedures and neglect the regular intake of prescribed medications, blepharitis and complications may develop. Those who have had contact with patients suffering from severe forms of the disease are prescribed aseptic drops, and they are vaccinated.

Of the complications most often develops dry eye syndrome, keratosis, cicatricial changes in eyelids and conjunctiva.

The prognosis depends on the type of illness. Timely therapy guarantees recovery. With insufficient diagnosis, chronic disease can be associated with the involvement of lacrimal organs and eyelids in the inflammatory process.
