Nerina flower: planting and care in the open ground

A flowery decorative plant, which is called an elegant beauty, is Nerina. Planting and care depends on the growing conditions - in the open ground or at home. How to do it - read in the article.

Description of the flower

Nerina (Nerine) is a thermophilic bulbous plant native to South Africa. The flower belongs to the family Amaryllis. The genus includes thirty species. The flower has the same name with the ancient Greek nymph.

A distinctive feature of the plant is the presence of long dark green leaves of a belt-like shape. The umbilical inflorescence has seven to fifteen flowers. Each has six strongly curved petals with wavy edges. Thanks to this structure of the flower, erect stamens are clearly visible.

Because of the quaint shape of the petals, Nerina was called "lily-spider". Flowers have different shades: pink, scarlet, crimson, white. They resemble segments of a bowl cut into pieces.

The stem of the inflorescence is leafless, it is called a "naked woman". Almost all varieties have a flowering period at the end of summer or the beginning of autumn and lasts about two months. The rest period is during the summer months. The exception is Bowden's neorin. This ornamental plant leaves leaves later inflorescences.

In open ground conditions, a flower is grown only in a warm climate with a moderate amount of precipitation. Excessive moisturizing is detrimental to the plant. Cut flowers are used for making bouquets. For three weeks they retain their original appearance.

This is one of the varieties of a flower. Its bulb is able to form a large number of children. Green leaves are long, fifteen to thirty centimeters. Their surface is glossy, with small grooves.

In the inflorescence there are up to twelve flowers. They are attached to the legs of a triangular shape, up to six centimeters in length. Flowers are pink.

Pleases with luxuriant flowering of Noreen Bowden. Planting and care require certain requirements for lighting, temperature, watering, humidity and top dressing. This variety is the most cold-resistant flower of its kind.

Growing and care in the open ground

In our country, in the area of the city of Sochi, a flower is cultivated to the Nerine. Landing and maintenance in this area are carried out in the open ground.

The bulbs of plants are left in the ground for the winter. Grow flowers in areas under the open sky flower Nerine. Landing and maintenance in the open ground are also carried out in other regions with a mild climate: on the Black Sea coast, in the Krasnodar Territory, in the south of the Crimea. Here bulbs for the winter are excavated and stored in a cool room in moistened peat. In other regions of Russia, Nerines are grown as a houseplant.

Selecting a landing site

The flower of Nerine, which is planted on sunny, to the extent of moistened, sheltered from the wind, does not shed its leaves all year round. Excessive hydration is undesirable, since the decay of bulbs can begin. For the plant suited sandy soil with good drainage, which was fertilized with compost or peat.

Nerina: planting and care

Landing in the open air begins in July-August. Because the bulbs are large, the distance between them should be at least seven to ten centimeters. The bulbs should not be disturbed, otherwise they will take a long time to settle down and will not bear the winter well. After planting, the soil is covered with a layer of mulch. You can use sawdust, wood shavings, grass cutting. Mulch will keep plants from freezing in the winter.

Flowering should be expected in early October. In the first year it will be weak. Flowering lasts for two months. The length of the peduncle reaches a height of fifty to sixty centimeters. If you plant the plant later, the number of flowers will decrease, their quality will deteriorate.

Nerine Bowden is a cold-resistant plant. Withstands frosts to eight or twelve degrees below zero. But he is afraid of rainy winters. Not cold-resistant Nerine after flowering is excavated, leaving a clod of earth on the roots, and sent for storage.

Nerine Bowden: Home Care

Prefers the garden land with the addition of peat and sand flower Nerine. Care at home is watering, feeding, observing the temperature regime, lighting and humidity. Feed the plant only once every two weeks. For this, a fertilizer for tomatoes or strawberries is suitable. It is diluted with water and watered with a flower.

The temperature in the room should not exceed fifteen degrees of heat. Dry air affects the color of the leaves: they begin to turn yellow. It is recommended to put a pot with a flower on a pallet with moist gravel. Watering plants begin in the spring, enough once in four days. In autumn the leaves turn yellow, the periodicity of watering should be reduced to four times a month.

In winter, water is poured as necessary nerin. Planting and care in this case is carried out in room conditions. At this time, the flower is at rest. The air temperature in the room should be reduced to ten degrees of heat. With good care, Nerine grows to sixty centimeters in height.

Features of care for a flower

Nerine is at rest two times a year. The first time - in the winter after the flowering, the second - in the summer. The color of the leaves does not change until the onset of spring. Flower buds are planted when the plant is at rest.

It is considered a whimsical flower of Nerina. Planting and nursing are carried out with observance of all rules, otherwise the plant can not bloom, growing in the room. Flower growers try to approximate the room conditions of flower maintenance to natural ones.

But this can not be done, as it will have to reduce the temperature in the house to ten degrees of heat and below. And this temperature is not suitable for permanent residence rights. Therefore, it is advisable to use a loggia or balcony with insulated walls and floor, if any.

You can use another method. When Nerine blossoms, watering is reduced, and with the onset of December completely cease. After the leaves dry completely, they are removed, and the flower pot is sent to the refrigerator for storage until March.

A flower from a refrigerator can not be immediately placed in a warm room. He needs time to adapt. Therefore, the pot with the plant is placed in the coolest, poorly lit room.

At the end of March - early April bulbs are awakened, but not for long. By the middle of July the leaves dry up, which is an approximation of the second period of rest. While the leaves are green, they can not be cut off, even if the plant needs rest. This happens when there are problems with watering.
