Monthly during breastfeeding: causes and characteristics

In the order of eighty percent of the fairer sex, the menstrual cycle "comes back to normal" at the end of ten to twelve weeks after the birth of the baby, provided that they do not plan to breastfeed. In moms who do this, menstruation normalizes somewhat later - after about six months.

Often, young mothers are alarming and embarrassed the appearance in the first weeks after the birth of the baby secretions of red color from the genital tract. These substances are really visually similar to menstrual, but the composition is radically different from them. They are called lochia (discharge from the uterus). After in the period of childbirth the placenta is rejected from the uterus wall, the latter forms a rather extensive bleeding zone. That is why the first time after childbirth there is a process of heavy bleeding - later, the lochia of red turn into a discharge of a yellowish-white hue, eventually their amount is reduced. Thus, menstruation in the period of feeding and excretion, characteristic for the first "postnatal" weeks - these are two completely different phenomena that can occur in parallel.

Many are interested in the question of why there are monthly ones during breastfeeding. The fact is that the normalization of the menstrual cycle is a natural biological process, its rate depends on the speed of improvement of the hormonal background of the woman's organism after the birth of the child, and its condition is affected by the way breastfeeding occurs. If the baby feeds exclusively on mother's milk, the menstrual cycle usually occurs when the child is one year old. Specialists in this case say: "Months during breastfeeding appear when the lactation period ends."

In the case when the child receives, in addition to breast milk, other options for nutrition (the so-called complementary feeding), then the monthly can occur before the end of lactation.

If the baby's diet is combined (mother's milk + lure), then the monthly intake during breastfeeding is normalized only 90-120 days after the birth of the baby. Menstrual cycle after childbirth can be accompanied by painful sensations. However, a certain proportion of women say: "Months during breastfeeding do not cause pain and special discomfort." Yes, it happens so. The fact that the cause of pain in the menstrual cycle is the bending of the uterus, as a result of which the process of outflow of blood secretions is difficult. During the period of labor, the uterus, naturally, is in its natural position, at the same time the order of the interposition of the abdominal cavity becomes different, and the finding of the above-mentioned "female genital organ" acquires a more physiological character. Because the pain is simply missing.

It should be emphasized that if breastfeeding started monthly, that is, it happened during lactation, then there is no reason to panic. Also, there is no need to think that breastfeeding should be abandoned. Very often there are situations when the monthly went with breastfeeding, as a result of which the production of milk in the mother's body decreased. Should consult a specialist and gradually introduce complementary foods.
