How to glue windows for the winter: eliminate drafts quickly, cheaply and without harm to the frame
If a person worried about the question of how to seal windows for the winter - this does not mean that he is too lazy to order modern plastic windows and solve the problem once and for all. Not everyone has money for this. Or they were, but they had to spend on something urgent. Or a person lives in a rented apartment, and the owner does not want to hear about compensation for the costs of double-glazed windows. Or the owner of the living space can not stand the spirit of plastic windows and plastic in general.
Perhaps you will laugh, but until now in solving the problem of how to seal windows for the winter, one of the high-quality materials is ... old newspapers. Verified! Fold the newspaper sheet into the tube - you should have a roll that is a bit wider than the distance between the window sashes. Several such elements should be put vertically back to back and close the windows.
Vata, foam rubber, tow can also be used to eliminate cracks, these are excellent insulants. On the top are glued strips 4-5 cm wide from white fabric, on which it is possible to put an old sheet. As an adhesive is a soapy solution (itself a fine insulator), which after "bathing" strips in hot water and pressing it is necessary to soap them well. In this way, the gluing of windows for the winter is carried out quickly, on a white background the frames of the strip are almost invisible. As soon as warm days come, enough to moisten the entire pasting of water - and it is easily removed. However, if the winter is capricious, with temperature differences, the strips can peel off independently. Then, alas, the procedure will have to be repeated.
Masters are advised not to use self-adhesive foam tape when gluing windows. It can, of course, be inserted between the frames, but you need to accurately observe the gap (approximately 35 mm), which is almost impossible to achieve. If it is less, you get a loophole for a draft, if more - the tape will interfere with the tight closing of the frame.
Also, Scotch tape for painting works and medical plaster will not do. The first one after a few weeks will dry up and peel off from the frame, reopening all the cracks. The second, on the contrary, will stick so firmly that with the onset of spring it will have to be tore assiduously, and then anew the window.
