Moldovan wines: names, classification, prices

Moldova is a wonderful paradise. For thousands of years, grapes have been grown here and they make wine, which has become a true symbol of the country.

Classification of wines

Moldovan wines are a visiting card of the country. As you know, in countries that have long been involved in winemaking such as Germany, Italy, France, Spain, wine is called a drink, which is obtained as a result of fermenting grapes. In Moldova, this drink is also obtained through the fermentation of apple juice.

Classification of wines in the republic is carried out on economic, social and technological grounds.

By the method of processing, it is distinguished: blending, segregated and varietal drinks.

A mixture of high-quality wine in strict proportions leads to the formation of blended beverages. A joint process of fermentation of completely different varieties causes the receipt of segregated types of products. Absolutely all these technologies are used by Moldovan winemakers.

Classification of wines by color and exposure

Moldovan wines are traditionally classified by color: red, pink and white. All these species are produced in the country.

Moreover, the drinks are distinguished both by the quality characteristics and by the terms of their aging. This is an ordinary and high-quality product. Ordinary young wines are ordinary drinks. They are sold, as a rule, in the crop year. With regard to high-quality varieties, they are divided into aged (they are kept in containers for at least six months) and collectible (they stand for at least two and a half years).

By technology of production I distinguish natural and special (produced with the use of special receptions) beverages.

As is known, the MOU (International Wine Organization) is of the opinion that the produced product is simply obliged to preserve its historical names regarding the territory where it is manufactured. For example, champagne can be called only that drink that is produced in Champagne in France.

For the sake of an international convention, Moldovan wines have alternative names in order not to use protected brands. For example:

  1. Sherry is a film Ialoveni drink.
  2. Port wine is a warm drink with access to a minimum of Prometeu oxygen.
  3. Madera is a wine that has been treated with heat, with oxygen access by Luceafur.
  4. Vermouth - flavored drink Mireazma Codrului.
  5. Sauterne is a white dessert wine Nectar.

What is famous about Moldovan wines?

Absolutely all Moldovan wines have great taste and have proved themselves at international exhibitions. They are popular far beyond the Republic. We will look at some of them.

Dry wines of Moldova are characterized by lightness, refinement and originality. Moreover, they are often not inferior in quality to foreign beverages. Therefore, one should definitely try Moldovan wines, the price will please you. Some, strangely enough, consider them a cheaper substitute for drinks from Western countries. However, this is wrong and unfair. A more democratic price for wine does not at all mean their poor quality.

On the contrary, they would not have become so popular outside the country if they had bad characteristics. Let us recall the most popular drinks: the Onego aligot, the Moldavian wine, the Dneprovsk White, Floyara Viy, Romanesti, Traminer, Alb de Codru, Silvaner, Negru de Purcari, "Gratiešte", "Sauvignon de Hincesti", Cabernet "Chumai".

Negru de Purcari

"Negru de Purcari" is considered one of the best red dry wines of Moldova, not inferior in quality to more famous and expensive foreign brands. The name of the drink was received at the place of production located on the right coast of the Dniester in the village of Purcari. For its production, grapes grown in this district are used. He grows very well here, accumulating a large amount of sugar.

"Negru de Purcari" is a blended wine made from several varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Saperavi, Rara Nyagre. And cabernet in the drink is present up to sixty percent. Experts say that this is the perfect basis for the original wine. But sapravi and rara nyagra give freshness and softness at the same time, contributing to the obtaining of a beautiful bouquet, which has a light blackcurrant tone. The taste is velvety and tender. This wine has received international recognition. It is even delivered to the royal English court. The price of this wine of the 1987 harvest is more than seven thousand rubles.

White wines of Moldova

Some of the dry white wines of Moldova are made from the "feteasca" grapes. The most good of them were repeatedly noted at international competitions: "Florya vii", "Floryaska". Since the variety "feteasca" ripens very quickly, then the beverages made from it are premature. In the second year of aging, they acquire their best qualities, and by the fifth year - almost all of them lose. They become rather mediocre, having lost the fullness of the bouquet. Connoisseurs perfectly understand that a long period of aging of such wine on etiquette should alert, and certainly it is not worth buying such a drink.

"The Crypt of Cabernet"

This is a dry red wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a dark red color. In the bouquet there are tones of vanilla, spices, notes of green pepper, soft cheese, oak, dried black currant berries. The taste is very light and has a fruity shade with a long aftertaste.

Such a drink should be served to fatty meat or game dishes, cooled to eighteen degrees.

Real connoisseurs and gourmets prefer the "Cricova Cabernet" harvest of eighty-seven. Undoubtedly, such a drink is more expensive than other Moldovan wines, but the taste characteristics justify such a price. This wine has one minor drawback in the form of slightly increased acidity, but similar is found in other Moldova's collection wines . Otherwise, this drink deserves praise only.

Taste characteristics of aligot

Wine - original, produced in Moldova since ancient times. The best harvests are collected in the central zone. The color of the drink varies from very light green to golden. The wine has a pleasant taste with the smell of wildflowers, violets. Moldovan aligote is a wine that is fresh and balanced.

In general, drinks from grapes "aligote" are distinguished by their lightness, freshness and harmony of taste. The price of wine varies from six hundred rubles to twenty thousand, depending on the year of harvest and the origin of the grapes. The drink is usually aged for two years.

Isabel

The Moldavian Isabella wine is produced from the same grape variety. It has a distinctive taste that can not be confused with anything.

Initially, this grape variety was brought from America to Europe and was widely used as a wine variety. It was also impressive that he was resistant to all kinds of diseases to which these plants are susceptible. In the post-Soviet space "Isabella" is widespread in Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus, Moldova and the Krasnodar Territory. From this variety, they prepare wonderful red table beverages. They are little-colored and have a characteristic taste of strawberries. True, this wine quickly grows old and loses its color. Table wines from this variety have a characteristic pink color and a wonderful aroma.

The price policy is different. For example, the cost of isabel from the series "Hills of Moldova" - from four hundred and fifty rubles. But the semisweet Case Mare will cost more than a thousand.

Vermouth

The very name "vermouth" came from the German word "wormwood". Ingredients of this drink can include more than twenty types of herbs, but the presence of a tart and hot wormwood is a must. Flavored wines in ancient times were considered curative. One of the most popular among such drinks in the USSR was the "Bouquet of Moldova". Initially, for its production, all the necessary herbs and aromatic additives were imported from Italy. A few years later the Moldovan winemakers switched to local grasses.
At present, the "Bouquet of Moldova" somehow lost its position in the market - whether due to lack of advertising, or for other reasons. Although previously was the undisputed favorite. Even local connoisseurs of vermouth now will probably take a martini, although the native vermouth, whose price is lower, is not inferior in taste. Impressive and the amount of herbs used in its preparation: mint, chamomile, linden, coriander, sweet clover and many more. In all this is about twenty species. And of course, wormwood, without which this vermouth can not be imagined.

Having wonderful taste characteristics, vermouth, whose price starts from fifty rubles, can compete with foreign brands.

Instead of an afterword

Undoubtedly, Moldovan wines deserve attention of admirers and connoisseurs of this wonderful drink. Moreover, they have good quality and democratic prices at the same time. And one can not ignore the centuries-old traditions in winemaking.
