Master's thesis: preparation and conduct of the research.

First of all, it is worthwhile to understand what the master's thesis is. The requirements for its creation are different from those that are put forward for a course work or a thesis project. Although many key points are similar, since the master's thesis is also a scientific research performed by the student independently, only at a higher level.

The master's thesis is a final project, a scientific research carried out by a student under the guidance of a scientific adviser with the possible involvement of competent scientific advisors who are narrow specialists in the field under study.

The master's thesis is a project in which the author's skills should be viewed not only to analyze and systematize scientific material and draw conclusions, but also the ability to conduct scientific research, to identify and offer new, previously unexplored aspects of the studied field.

Performing work on the theoretical, analytical and empirical levels indicates a high level of the professional competence of the author not only as a theorist, but also practice.

Along with such structural elements of the introduction as a goal, tasks, object, subject (with which the researcher is familiar with the writing of the coursework and diploma), the master's work at a higher scientific level implies an approach to the choice of the research methodology, the formulation of provisions to be defended. This applies to the novelty put up for defense.

That is, it is important that it is the dissertator who is going to propose in science new and previously unknown, by other authors not yet illuminated.

This moment is extremely important and often causes difficulties for the researcher, since in modern science there are a lot of already studied and urgent issues in various fields. However, before the thesis is the task to work out a lot of literature, get acquainted with the trends in the development of scientific thought in the proposed topic and determine what is still not fully understood. This may be a rather narrow aspect, but requiring in-depth study, research on an empirical level.

The choice of methods by which research will be conducted in master's work should be taken very seriously, since it is precisely the correct methodology that can guarantee reliable research results. Methods can be chosen as qualitative, and quantitative separately. But it's better if they are combined. For example, a social or psychological experiment is a qualitative research method. Factor or correlation analysis belongs to quantitative methods. At the stage of selecting a methodology, it is best to consult a supervisor or specialists in the field of sociology who can advise the right way and avoid mistakes.

First of all, it is necessary to arrange everything that contains the master's thesis. Requirements for the design of work in each institution may differ, but not very significantly, since the master's thesis always consists of such structural components:

The title fox;

Abstract (with a brief presentation of the characteristics of the work);

Content with the indication of page numbers;

Introduction, containing all the necessary elements (relevance, purpose, objectives, object, subject, novelty, approbation, etc.);

The main part (consists of 3 sections, in each necessary number of subsections);

Conclusions;

Bibliographic list (GOST R7.05-2008);

Applications;

Auxiliary indexes.

Despite the large number of processed theoretical material, detailed descriptions of the studies that contain the master's thesis, its volume can not be very large. Presumably 80-100 pages typewritten text on technical specialties, 100-110 pages - for the humanities. Applications in this volume are not included. They can be as many as necessary to complete the presentation of research results. It is not desirable if their number exceeds the volume of the dissertation itself. These requirements must be specified individually at the department of the institute, under which the project is being implemented.
