Maria Arbatova: brief biography

Maria Arbatova, whose biography is described in this article, is a well-known Russian writer, public figure, distinguished by her feminist views.

A family

Maria's father - Ivan Gavrilovich Gavrilin - was originally from the Ryazan province. He studied at the Faculty of History, later worked as deputy editor of the Red Star. Then he was sent to Murom to teach Marxist philosophy in military academies.

Mother of Maria - Tsivya Ilinichna Aizenshtat - was born in Moscow in 1922. She studied at the medical institute, but after evacuation from the capital she transferred to the veterinarian institute. Graduated with a diploma of a microbiologist.

The fact is that she was not satisfied with the productions created by her own works. As a true feminist, she claimed the inability of the male director to understand and read her play in the right direction.

Among the most famous dramatic works can be identified "Equation with two unknowns" (1982), "Taking the Bastille" (1994).

On the writer's account there are twenty-two books, the first of which was published in 1991. In literary criticism her works are usually called "women's prose." What is their phenomenon?

First of all, Maria Arbatova represents in her works a feminist hierarchy of values. Many of her books are autobiographical. By example, she shows the reader the basic concepts of the female world. In her books she raises the themes of motherhood, sexuality, gender equality, civil responsibility.

One of the most famous books of the author is a collection of short stories "My name is a woman", published in 1998. This is a kind of autobiography, in which there are collected stories from life, designed to warn and arm the readers.

Despite her popularity in the media, Maria Arbatova does not receive high marks from literary critics for her work.

Political and social activities

The writer has participated in the political life of the country quite a lot, participating in various PR projects. For example, she wrote pre-election speeches for Yeltsin and Ella Pamfilova.

Several times ran for the State Duma, but lost, not gaining a couple of percent. Was a part of some parties ("Civil Force"), as a candidate participated in the elections to the Moscow City Duma.

Personal life

With her second husband, Arbatova met on the day of her divorce with her first husband. And in their history, too, events swirled in a whirlwind. Oleg Vite was a political expert. Their marriage lasted eight years.

The third marriage lasts until now. Maria Arbatova, whose personal life consists of a series of fateful events, hopes that this union will remain for the rest of her life. Her husband is Hindu Shumit Datta Gupta is a financial analyst who has lived in Russia since 1985.
