Malaya Ordynka Street - a place where you can feel the breath of the historical center of Moscow

All excursion programs for tourists in the capital of our country are similar to each other, like twins. Once upon a time all the main roads of Zamoskvorechye stretched from the center of the city in a southeasterly direction. Not an exception and the modern street Malaya Ordynka, received its name in honor of the parallel located Bolshaya Ordynka. Variants of origin of this unusual name set. The most popular version is that they got their street names, because here once the Tatar quarter was located. Some historians believe that along these roads they took a tribute to the Golden Horde. Its history dates back to the 14th century. It was fully formed by the 16th century. Historical buildings have survived to this day in part. Where is Malaya Ordynka Street located?

The street parallel to Bolshaya Ordynka stretches from Klimentovsky Lane to Pyatnitskaya Street. This is the very center of the capital of Russia - the Zamoskvorechye region. Today, modern office and commercial buildings adjoin historical buildings. On this street there are preserved monuments of architecture of the XIX century, including ancient wooden mansions. On Malaya Ordynka there is its own metro station - Tretyakovskaya. N.A. Ostrovsky on the Small Ordynka

In 1948, the street was renamed and was named after AN Ostrovsky. The historical name was returned only in 1992 and remains to this day. A well-known Russian playwright was really born, lived and worked right here, for good reason Malaya Ordynka wore his name for some time. An old mansion in which the Ostrovsky family lived was preserved. Its exact address today: Moscow, st. Small Ordynka, 9/12, building 6. The date of construction of this building is 1810. Today, in the old mansion for tourists, the house-museum of Alexander Ostrovsky was opened, a significant part of the exposition is devoted to theatrical art. On the facade of the building there is a memorial tablet telling about the life and work of the playwright. Also on Malaya Ordynka there is a monument to Ostrovsky, representing a bust on a high pedestal.

Vintage sights and monuments

Once the street Malaya Ordynka was a popular place among representatives of the upper strata of society. Here built residential estates and profitable houses. Not much has changed today: there are many offices and business centers on this street, but finding an apartment here is not so simple. From the old buildings of great interest is the building of the Sysalin-Golofteev manor, having the number 12/31. This is a three-story mansion, built in the late 18th century. If you go further, you will be able to appreciate all the magnificence of lucrative homes LI Kashtanov, MI Sotnikov and AA Durilin. Today they have modern offices and commercial organizations. Small Ordynka can boast of two ancient churches. This is the church of St. Nicholas in Pyzhy and the Iberian icon of the Mother of God in Vspilye.

What else to see while walking?

Not for nothing in the street Malaya Ordynka lived and worked AN Ostrovsky. Today this street is one of the most "theatrical" in all of Moscow. There are two theaters at once. These cultural organizations are not only related to the location. Both theaters have relatively small auditoriums, and the performances here are especially interesting and cozy. The exhibition hall is located in an old mansion built in the 1950s of the nineteenth century.
