Laurel noble - not only seasoning

Laurel noble, more precisely, its leaflets, are simply necessary in the process of making so many dishes: soups, borscht, etc. They are used to give food a special piquant taste, adding them when boiling to meat, fish, many vegetable casseroles, pickles and marinades. However, it is not necessary to buy this seasoning in the store, many prefer to grow this plant at home or in the garden, providing themselves with always fresh leaves.

Laurel noble refers to the homonymous family of laurels. In nature, its trees reach a height of ten meters, they have a dark gray trunk and a branchy crown. This plant blooms with small inflorescences on small pedicels. Fruits ripening in the autumn are blue-colored kostyanki.

Laurel noble - rather unpretentious option, it is very easy to carry trim, so in the south, choosing trees for the garden, many prefer this plant, from which you can get very bizarre and interesting forms of hedges. In addition, the tree is fairly resistant to colds, and dies only at temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius, although in dry areas it survives and with more severe frosts.

Homeland of the laurel is considered to be the Mediterranean. Currently, it can often be found in the forests of Syria and in the mountains of Asia Minor. In our country, these trees are common in the Black Sea regions, especially in the Crimea, where they perform not only aesthetic, but also sanitary and hygienic functions, enriching the air around phytoncides. Wherever they grow, during the flowering period, there is a strong, spicy and very pleasant aroma, while the volatile emissions of this plant are able to suppress the growth of the tubercle bacillus. That is why it is so often found in resort marine areas.

Laurus breeds with noble layers and seeds. Planting it does not require careful care. They need only a slight blackout, although they feel comfortable enough in the sun.

Laurel trees can live up to a hundred years, they always have a lot of leaves and so they look very beautiful.

In ancient Rome and Greece, the noble laurel was considered sacred. It could be found at all the temples built in honor of the sun god Apollo.

The custom of rewarding the winners with large laurel wreaths also came to us from antiquity. And it is no accident that many sports medals depict the branch of this plant, as its Latin name - Lauras - translates as "laureate".

However, the laurel noble is used not only as a seasoning for borscht or pickles. Even in ancient times, people learned to use its remarkable properties in folk medicine. The healing properties of this wonderful plant are due, above all, to the high content of essential oils, cineol, terpenoids, etc. in it.

Avicenna used it in the treatment of diseases of the ears, Hippocrates prescribed decoctions from the laurel with birth pain, Galen believed that laurel leaves relieve pain from kidney stones, the Arab healer Rades with their help treated nervous tics.

Laurel oil, rich in ethereal substances, our ancestors used as a means of preventing malaria, cholera, dysentery, its fruits are excellent for coughing, and are also used as a wound-healing agent.

Smoke from burning wood perfectly repels mosquitoes, mosquitoes and ants. For the manufacture of medicinal infusions, extracts and oils, mainly leaves are used.
