Nervous tick

Nervous tic is characteristic for emotional personalities, experiencing stress and being in conditions of struggle with surrounding circumstances. This condition is an involuntary repetitive contraction of the muscles (including, the voice musculature).

Nervous tick. Causes

Experts have not yet established the exact triggering mechanisms of the syndrome. Provocative moments may be stressful situations, craniocerebral trauma, infection, chronic chronic intoxication (alcoholism, smoking), brain pathologies of vascular nature, occupational factors. In addition, there is a nervous tic of hereditary origin.

Manifestation of the syndrome is diverse. The nervous tic can be localized on the facial musculature. This condition is characterized as mimic hyperkinesis. To it it is necessary to attribute and twitching of eyelids, movements of lips, cheeks, a nose, a head, language.

When involved in the process of the voice muscles, a person can cough, sigh to say the whole phrase or make any sounds. In this case, the nervous tic has a vocal nature.

There is also a group of limb ticks. For such conditions, jerking of fingers, hands, restless movements with shoulders, feet, tearing clothes, scratching are characteristic.

Hyperkinesis can be isolated (mimic only, for example) or be characterized by generalization (a combination of two or three types of tics covering a large volume of musculature).

Disorder in mental abilities in these conditions is not noted. There is no observable effect on physiology. However, the state of the nervous system in tics can be quite severe.

As a rule, patients are characterized by tension, social complication, shyness. Patients tend to appear less in public, avoid situations in which the likelihood of tics increases. In a number of cases, sleep disturbances occur as a result of frequent and extensive seizures.

Diagnosis of the disease does not present difficulties for the neurologist. The regularity of repetitive movements, patient complaints, family predisposition, risk factors speak in favor of the condition.

Differential diagnosis is performed with Tourette's syndrome, convulsive seizures. With the help of the EEG, the electrical activity of the brain is analyzed. To exclude pathology of an organic nature, a CT scan is performed.

How to treat a nervous tic?

It should be noted that therapy states include several stages and the application of various activities. Treatment of ticks involves the use of psychotherapeutic methods, physiotherapy procedures, medicines, acupuncture, curative gymnastics. Of drugs, neuroleptics, sedatives are quite common. Botox is used to eliminate mimic nerve tics. The normalization of the rest and labor regime, as well as adequate nutrition and sleep, is of great importance in the conduct of effective treatment.

Some specialists apply a specific method of getting rid of the condition. The patient is forced to repeat, copy the nervous tic to the state of exhaustion.

It should be noted that the prognosis of the disease is relatively unfavorable. This is due to insufficient knowledge of the causes of the occurrence of tick states. In medical practice there is a certain number of cases in which, even after successful treatment, the condition returned again, several years later, or from the very beginning of the disease, alternating periods of exacerbations and remissions occur.
