Lakshmi Narayana Temple and other Hindu temples of India

Any tourist who goes to India can not help visiting such religious buildings as the Lakshmi-Narayana temple. Delhi, the capital of a fabulous country, attracts millions of visitors every year. The reason for this, of course, is in the unique culture of India, which has more than one thousand years. The majestic temples of the leading religion in the country - Hinduism, unusual monks and pilgrims - the atmosphere of any local city makes a stranger feel in a real fairy tale. That only there are Indian pilgrims and monks! About this wonderful monument, we will discuss later in the publication.

Modern Delhi or ancient India?

No exception is the capital of India, Delhi. The sights of Delhi, in fact, are very diverse - after all, this is the main city of the country, which has a developed space program and is famous for its programmers. Nevertheless, Westerners (and Russia and the CIS countries for the local population are no different from Europeans, at least outwardly) come to India not in order to delve into the problems of modernity. All of us are attracted by living monuments of antiquity - and, above all, Hindu temples of India.

Imaginary antiquity

It is interesting that most of the most popular temple complexes, which are valuable for both Hindus and ordinary travelers, come to the country to gaze at the peculiarities of culture and traditions, are not so old. This is exactly what a new city is like New Delhi. India is a young country, despite a thousand-year history. Thanks to the image, almost everything that we see here seems to be covered with a veil of antiquity, but often this is far from the case, even when talking about the cult buildings of the city of Delhi. Attractions, among which are the most famous in the country temples of Lakshmi Narayana, Radha-Parthasarathi and the largest in the country temple complex Akshardham - were built quite recently - at the end of the twentieth or even in the twenty-first century! What makes India really different is that it carefully preserves all the traditions of millennial antiquity, from Vedic times to the Middle Ages, supporting them in living fire. Thanks to this attitude, the iconic architecture is perceived in this way.

Lakshmi Narayana Temple

This is probably the most popular temple for the country's tourists. He was created thanks to two famous Indian patrons of the interwar period, father and son Jugara Kishore Birla and Baldeo Birla. Therefore, actually, often the temple of Lakshmi Narayana is named after these benefactors - the Birla temple. Lashkmi and Narayana, the deities to whom the cult construction is dedicated, is a married couple in which the first figure, the goddess of health, is more famous. Every year in the temple thousands of Hindus pray, asking Lakshmi well-being for his family and loved ones.

Construction of the cult construction was carried out in the thirties of the last century, and the famous Mahatma Gandhi managed to take part in its erection. Today, the temple of Lakshmi Narayana represents more than three acres of buildings of various sizes, a huge sacred garden. The architectural style of the church is fully developed in the traditional canons of construction of sacred structures. The style of Lakshmi Narayana corresponds to the canons of building temples in the north of the country, and is called Nagara. So familiar to us the idea of an Indian temple with thousands of sculptures on the walls of the building just corresponds to this style. Sculptors and artists from the city of Varanasi decorated the main tower of the temple almost fifty meters high with many frescoes, statues depicting plots from the sacred texts of Hinduism.

Akshardham

The largest in India (and, accordingly, in the world), the temple complex of Hinduism was built quite recently - in 2005. There are many museums on its territory. Perhaps, it is thanks to the diversity of this place that three quarters of tourists visiting Delhi come here first. Unlike the temple of Lakshmi Narayana, this complex combines all the architectural canons of the country. If you do not have enough money to see with your own eyes all the great cultures of India, then you definitely should visit at least in Akshardham.

Religious construction of Radha Partasaratha

This temple is the third among the most famous and visited temples in Delhi. Unlike the previous ones, he is dedicated to God Krishna. He also opened recently - in 1998. The temple can be called sacred not only for the Hindus, but also for the Hare Krishnas - a long time habitual droplet of exoticism in the mosaic of a modern city in the post-Soviet space. Its peculiarity is also that the Vedic heritage of India plays a special role in the construction of the temple. It is located near the ancient capital of the Aryans, Indraprastha, and it is here, according to legend, that Krishna told his ancient teaching to the ancient prince Arjuna.
