"Lada Roadster": characteristics and reviews

The Russian manufacturer AvtoVAZ is not only "Grant", "Kalina", "Vesta" and other serial models. In the lineup there are a few more cars that few people know about, because they did not go to the series. Despite the fact that they are not assembled on conveyors and do not sell at the Moscow auto shows, these cars are known to car lovers - it's just not a mass product. One of these machines should be told. This "Lada Roadster" (photo will be presented later in our article), created in Togliatti, and "Crimea", developed by students of the MSTU. Bauman.

This domestic concept managed to attract special attention at the MIMS 2000 auto show in the capital. The car was designed and built under the guidance of designer Sergey Nuzhny. This model is a living example of the experience needed in auto design. On this model, not only bold design ideas and solutions were worked out, but also technologies for making prototypes made of polyester resin were used. The method is not suitable for mass production, but here for a small series it fits well. By the way, "Lada Roadster" is built on the basis of "Kalina", but not the one that everyone knows well. Then it was just a promising "Kalina". Work on this concept car began in 2000.

From the history of the domestic roadster

In the works on designing this concept car, only five people were employed: Sergei Nuzhny, who was the chief designer and leader of this project, designer Mikhail Ponomarev and three workers. The forces of this small team literally in seven months, almost from scratch, was created "Lada Roadster".

Features of the implementation

The layout of the future car was thought through very carefully. Immediately it was clear that the base platform would need to be reduced by 150 mm. As soon as sketches and technical equipment were approved, the team began to turn the car on paper into a real one.

The work was carried out according to the Sbarro method. In this technique, the creation of a layout is excluded. All operations are carried out directly on the live object. This approach saves time and money. At the same time, if there is a good running basis, then the prototype will get excellent driving performance. As for the volume of the carrier, it is built up with the help of easily processed material, due to which surfaces are formed. Something is removed or moved.

How the design was born

The instrument panel of the car "Lada Roadster" is taken again from the VAZ-1118. The frame of the windshield moved from VAZ-2110. The basis for the frameless door was taken from the Alfa-Romeo GTV model. Head optics is based on the elements of the car "Volkswagen Golf" fourth generation. In the image of the car, it was necessary to preserve the features of "Lada Kalina". The fact is that the concept is not just a machine. It was to serve as an advertisement for VAZ-1118 and all other models.

At first, the roadster, created on the basis of the Lada Kalina car, was somewhat like the Huindai Accent model of the early 90's. However, later in the leadership of AvtoVAZ decided to change the design of "Kalina". The creators of the concept car have freedom of creativity. As a result, it was possible to completely avoid copying the basic version. The team offered the public something new, but at the same time it looks like "Kalina".

As the car became more complete, and at the same time the date of the Moscow Motor Show was getting closer and closer, AutoVAZ decided that they could show one more concept car. The testimonies indicate that the "Lada Roadster" at the presentation was a little raw. If the model began to be thoroughly studied, the developers would be able to refine the running characteristics and interior.

The key idea

The main idea is the roof. It should fit completely on the trunk. This chip was unpopular - the world's automakers were making the roof a little differently. This solution, which Nuzhny suggested, allowed to save the volume of the trunk - the idea to date has no analogues. The car can be compared with a Kalashnikov assault rifle - the car turned out to be simple and therefore gained such popularity.

Technical data

Interesting car "Lada Roadster" specifications. Due to the low weight, namely 1150 kg, the car turned out to be more rapid and dynamic. The machine is equipped with a two-liter 16-valve power unit. The engine had enough power to accelerate the car to 100 km in 9 seconds. The motor develops 105 liters. S at 5400 rpm. With the engine running sequential transmission - it also positively affected the result.

"Crimea"

And if the "Roadster" from AvtoVAZ was created by professionals, the roadster "Crimea" on the basis of "Lada Kalina" was created exclusively by students and teachers of the MSTU. Bauman. The first data that this car is being developed, began to appear in early 2015. The creation of the rear-wheel drive concept involved graduates and post-graduate students of the university. The head of the project was Professor Dmitry Onishchenko. The first prototype was already presented in Moscow in late 2015. From sketches, drawn on paper, to the realized concept less than one year has passed. As a basic chassis, the platform "Lada Kalina" of the second generation was used. The serial model was borrowed almost all the nodes and elements.

"Crimea" inside

Everyone knows the outstanding interior of Kalina 2. But the "Lada Crimea" is a roadster, which has practically no resemblance to the child from Avtovaz. The filling of the concept car looks very interesting.

Salon decorated with alcantara bright orange. There is a sports steering wheel. All this attracts attention - it's a very unnatural design for a domestic car. From the "Kalina" concept got the front panel, however, it was recycled. All other interior details and elements were created at the university.

Design Features

As a supporting structure, a spatial frame of tubes was manufactured. But it remained only in the first prototype. The second version of the roadster will be created on the basis of a box structure of sheet materials, additionally reinforced with stiffening ribs. As a security arc, too, round pipes are used. The body parts are made of composite fiber, fiberglass, and also carbon fiber. Polyester and epoxy resins were also used. The matrices were created on the basis of the full-size model of the car.

Glass - own design. The roof and its mechanism was also created by the Baumans. The upper part was made on the basis of three rigid elements, which are connected together by power units and pulling rods for folding. The guys created optical instruments with their own hands. The hulls were made completely by hand. Glasses are also original. The suspension system is an independently created project, except for some components from the second generation of "Kalina". Completely redone the geometric characteristics and kinematics of the suspension.

This roadster from the base "Kalina" is characterized by longitudinal and transverse angles of inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheel, as well as other minor details. The rear suspension is the same as the front suspension from the factory Kalina, though with a different geometry. Dampers and springs are adjusted.

Dimensions

The length of the car is 3848 mm, the width is 1679 mm. The wheelbase is 2470 mm. The height is only 1195 mm.

Power section

As a power unit Baumans decided to use the VAZ-2127 engine. Its power is 106 liters. With., And the twisting moment is equal 148 Nanometers. Transmission - VAZ-2181. Both the unit and the box are serial. In the future, it is planned to equip the roadster "Crimea" on the basis of "Lada" turbocharger and offer various options for power up to 200 forces.

Conclusion

Such examples can be made by domestic craftsmen. As you can see, the aggregates are very beautiful and interesting. And let "Kalina" be used as a platform. As evidenced by the owners' reviews, these are spare parts and maintainability. And if you buy one of these machines, then in the flow you will not be deprived of attention. The car is worthy of respect!
