Description

Kumzhenskaya Grove (Rostov-on-Don city) is located in the Western region, at the confluence of the rivers Dead Donets and Don. There are many picturesque glades from which a magnificent view of the river and the city opens. In spring and summer the local scenic spots are suitable for picnics, organizing campgrounds and fishing. Swim here sanitation is not recommended, because there is no official beach in these places.

In winter, when the river is covered with solid ice, amateurs of speed skating and fans of winter fishing gather here. Kumzhenskaya Grove (Rostov-on-Don), photo of which you can see in this article, is surrounded by rivers: on the right is the majestic Don, to the left - the Dead Donets.

In the autumn, when the grove is painted in a variety of colors, it is very pleasant to just wander along the paths under the rustling of fallen leaves. And you can go out to the alley, paved with sidewalk tiles, which will take you to the Kumzhensky memorial.

Memorial Complex

The original memorial complex appeared in the Kumzhensky Grove in 1983. This monument is established as a reminder of the fallen Soviet fighters who liberated the city in 1941 and 1943. The complex includes several separate monuments and a mass grave. The memorial in the Kumzhensky Grove is a cultural monument of regional significance.

Along the main avenue of the complex there are sculptures. The complex consisted of five pylons lined with marble of gray color, commemorative plates with carved names of military units and formations taking part in the liberation of Rostov, and four stelae of Glory.

The central object of the memorial, which is famous for the Kumzhenskaya Grove (Rostov-on-Don), is the "Sturm" monument. On the high granite pedestal is a sculptural group. These are attacking soldiers. Above them is a 18-meter arrow made of metal. It indicates the direction of the Soviet blow. A large mass grave is next to the monument. In it lies the ashes of the dead soldiers-liberators. On their granite plates, their names are carved in gold letters.

Heroes of the memorial

It is interesting that the sculptural group depicts real heroes who liberated Rostov-on-Don: a woman armed with a pistol is Alexander Nozadze, who during the war was a political instructor of the 1151st regiment, a native of Abkhazia. Next to her - Lieutenant Vladimir Milovidov, by nationality of Karelians, and Alexey Filippov - junior lieutenant, commander of machine-gun company.

Every year on the day of the Great Victory comes the Kumzhenskaya Grove (Rostov-on-Don). The events held here are very solemn. Our veterans come to the memorial, the soldiers of the Soviet Army and the youth take part in the celebrations. And always these events end with a gun volley in memory of the dead heroes.
