From the houses, taken from the territories subject to flooding, an ethnic village has been created in the museum. Flooded at the creation of Kostroma Bay, the village of Spas-Vezhi, as well as the city of Mologa, absorbed by the Rybinsk Reservoir, became symbols of irretrievably lost Russia.

The history of the formation of the Kostroma Sea dates back to the 50s of the last century. In 1956, simultaneously with the launch of the Gorky (Nizhegorodskaya) hydroelectric power station, which was the fourth stage of the Volga cascade of hydroelectric power stations, the Kostroma River was blocked.
