Kostroma Sea: photo, history of education. Where is the Kostroma Sea?

Disputes about the benefits to the national economy and the harm to nature caused by the already erected and still under construction hydroelectric stations will never abate. The state district power station provides for the creation of reservoirs, which also cause many complaints. Actually, the conflict that arises when trying to solve the tasks of the country's industrial and economic development and preserve its historical and cultural heritage is eternal. The Kostroma Sea, which is the gulf of the Gorky Reservoir, is no exception. The Gorky reservoir itself is called "mountain-sea". The expression vividly illustrates the fact that the reservoirs have plenty of enemies.

Indisputable water spaces

A huge pond of lake type, located in the lower reaches of the Kostroma River, refers both to the Kostroma and Yaroslavl regions. It is shallow (the largest depth is eight meters, the total - four), the coastline has a complex shape. The Kostroma Sea itself has unique hydrological and physico-geographical features.

In what territories is the wide Kostroma pond stretched? These lowlands with a large number of rivers, lakes and marshes were praised by NA Nekrasov. The area occupied by the Kostroma Sea approximately reaches a size of 40 x 20 km (according to some data, the occupied area is from 176 to 250 sq. Km), therefore it is not called a lake, but a sea, and the glory of it has long crossed beyond the named Areas.

Flooded finally the country of Grandfather Mazay

On the territory of the lost country of Grandfather Mazai, flooded 60 years ago, the rivers Kast (west), Sot (north), Idolomka (east) flowed. All of them, merging, formed the Uzaksu River, which was before the construction of the reservoir by the tributary of Kostroma, which ran east of all these rivers.

Now Uzax, as well as the lower reaches of Kostroma, are the channels connecting the Kostroma Sea and the Volga river bed section of the Gorky Reservoir. With the Gorky reservoir, this bay is connected by the former river Sezeia and the Sametskaya promoina. Just between them is a large and beautiful island of Mokhovaya. Kostroma Bay appeared on the site of dozens of lakes. The most notable of them were Lake Bolshoe, Swan, Botvino and others.

Flooded Beauty

All the areas currently occupied by this reservoir, from the village of Glazov, located on the Sot River in the Yaroslavl region, up to the Ipatievsky Monastery and from the village of Pribrezhnoye to the village of Bukhalov, were melted with melt waters from mid-March to mid-May.

On the surviving photographs one can see that all the houses, services and churches in the flooded villages were built on high wooden stilts. Surrounded by trees, they look very picturesque. Kostroma land has always been a symbol of patriarchal Russia.

Kostroma Sloboda

In total, 20 settlements had to be evacuated, among which there were quite large ones, such as Miskovo for 500 yards, Kunikovo and Zharki for 450 yards each. It is always a pity, when something completely disappears from the face of the earth, but for the sake of justice it should be noted that amazing exhibits of wooden architecture have been preserved and moved to another place.

In 1955, behind the southern wall of the Ipatievsky Monastery was created an unusual open-air museum - Kostroma Sloboda. Here were transferred churches, including the Transfiguration of the Savior from the village of Spas-Vyezhi, and the church of the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin from the village of Kholm, and the Church of the All-Merciful Savior from the village of Fominskoye. From the houses, taken from the territories subject to flooding, an ethnic village has been created in the museum. Flooded at the creation of Kostroma Bay, the village of Spas-Vezhi, as well as the city of Mologa, absorbed by the Rybinsk Reservoir, became symbols of irretrievably lost Russia.

Idol Dam

The history of the formation of the Kostroma Sea dates back to the 50s of the last century. In 1956, simultaneously with the launch of the Gorky (Nizhegorodskaya) hydroelectric power station, which was the fourth stage of the Volga cascade of hydroelectric power stations, the Kostroma River was blocked. Its current was stopped by the Idol Dam, which starts from the shipyard in the city of Kostroma and ends near the village of Pribrezhny. The five-kilometer-long dam is an obstacle to the flooding of agricultural areas.

Functions of the Kostroma reservoir

What is the Kostroma Sea (photos posted in the article) now? Its main purpose is to regulate the water level in the Gorky reservoir, connected with the work of the Rybinsk hydroelectric power station.

In addition, Kostroma Bay is famous for the fact that it reproduces and feeds fish, which then falls into the Gorkovskoye vault. Recently, in the waters of the Kostroma Sea were released tens of thousands of carp fish. Try to reproduce here on an industrial scale and sterlet, which is listed in the Red Book.

Rest on the sea

The nature that surrounds the Kostroma Sea, rest on its banks makes it unforgettable. Moreover, along the shores of the depository itself and on its islands, dozens of magnificent tourist centers and recreation centers are located for every taste and prosperity - from the eco-hotel "Romanov Les" to various fishing huts pleasing with comfort and democratic prices. Recreation bases are surrounded by beautiful forests full of game, mushrooms and berries. About the rest places, such as Familyhotel-RU, Astashevo, Belkin Griva (named after the eponymous island), Bely Yar, Vetluga and many others, the mass media has comprehensive information. And although the shores of the sea itself are swamped, there are pretty decent beaches on the dam. The recreation center "Pribrezhny", located 20 km from Kostroma, is located directly on the shore of the same sea.

Fairy fishing and the location of the pond

Separate words deserve fishing on the Kostroma Sea. In some reviews there are data that in a few hours in reservoir spills you can catch up to 30-50 pieces of pike perch. Very often pike weighs up to 15-18 kg, tench, bream and asp - up to 3 kg.

It is also wonderful winter fishing, and the bases, available in large quantities, are comfortable and affordable. It is worth adding that the beauty of the numerous islands of the Kostroma reservoir, as well as the coast, is unusual. One of them, put up for sale, was included in the list of the top 10 in the world in this category. Those who do not know where the Kostroma Sea is located will give a clue. Kostroma itself, the cradle of the Romanov dynasty, is located 344.5 km from Moscow along the Yaroslavl Highway and the Kholmogory A / S M8. The Kostroma Sea, as noted above, spilled 20 km from it.
