Brother Sherlock Holmes - sybarite-intellectual from the club "Diogenes"

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) tried to be understandable, interesting to his reader. Following these principles, he created books to which fans of puzzles and good writer's style from all over the world are constantly returning.

The author's legacy includes not only stories and novels about the famous detective, on the pages of which there are also Dr. Watson and the brother of Sherlock Holmes, but in general about 70 books that not all have stood the test of time. But his favorite characters are alive, as well as the environment of the famous house on Baker Street. Surprisingly, at this address letters are still coming. But it all began in the distant 1891.

The favorites of the reading public

Having created his first story from the series "Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", the writer was captured by charming, authentically created characters. And, no matter what they say about the mutual influence of writers and prospective prototypes, the author believed that the observant analyst, the detective with the pipe, is more likely to be written off from himself. He was quite adventurous, athletic, and the ability to analyze gave him a feeling of profound satisfaction. The elder brother of Sherlock Holmes is a very peculiar person, who is difficult to force to take an extra step to achieve the goal.

He lived in a very closed circle: work in Whitehall, the club "Diogenes", where everyone observes the inviolable principle - less contact with each other, and the home environment at Pal Mal. But since the house is a fortress for an Englishman, outsiders will not be allowed there. The reader, like Dr. Watson, will get acquainted with Mycroft at the club. And for all, the presence of Sherlock Holmes's older brother with a seven-year difference in age will be an absolute surprise. Watson believed that the detective himself exaggerated his brother's intellectual abilities, considering them to be higher than his own. After all, if it were in fact, then both the public and the police would know about it. And now Holmes leads his faithful companion to get acquainted with his closest relative. How will the brother of Sherlock Holmes appear before us?

Appearance of Mr. Holmes Sr.

It was very tall, above the younger brother, a burly, massive gentleman. He had a large face with a look detached from reality, and a high forehead burdened with thoughts.

There was only a little hint of the sharp expressiveness of Sherlock's face. Mycroft's eyes are watery, light gray, his arms are wide and thick, resembling the fins of a walrus.

In 2013, a film about Sherlock Holmes was created in England. His brother Mycroft played a great, clever, ironic actor and writer Stephen Fry, who himself is able to create imaginative books. For example, his short story "Tennis Balls of Heaven" gained popularity.

In Britain, the talent of this actor is very appreciated by the audience, but the American market still has to be won. Based on serious material, Stephen creates a complete humor of images, which is very appealing to the British. The character that Fry embodied on the screen turned out to be an organic and appropriate description of Arthur Conan Doyle.

The first joint work of the brothers

It was like this: a Greek interpreter turned to the brother of the famous detective. He knew everything: the name of Sherlock Holmes's brother, was aware of his reputation. The visitor told a sad story about the kidnapping of a person and that he was being starved, demanding to sign documents on the transfer of property to scammers. In addition, they had his sister in captivity. The Greek interpreter expected a terrible ending to this story. Holmes decided to take urgent measures and to release the unfortunate to connect the police. But before he decided to go home and arm himself. What was the amazement of both Watson and Holmes when they saw that Mycroft Holmes was already waiting for them, who, forgetting about his inertia, decided to join them. In this story, unexpected for Holmes's qualities of the brother - courage and the desire to do justice, are manifested, and not to be an outside observer.

Unfortunate, of course, saved, but the villains managed to escape from the country, taking with them a captive. However, after some time the detective learned from the Hungarian news that two Englishmen in a fight killed each other. The girl was not informed, but Holmes was convinced that it was she who had avenged her brother's death so much. In the next of four stories, we learn that Sherlock Holmes's brother is able to reincarnate in such a way that even Watson does not recognize him. There is another mention of a brother in one story. It is Mycroft Holmes who will financially support the detective for three years, when the thugs of Professor Moriarty chased him .

Missing Drawings

In this story, Mycroft Holmes will take the most active part. He is the brain of the British government, his most perfect instrument, knowing absolutely everything and knowing how to establish the correct interrelationships between disparate facts from various fields. While the two friends are pondering what made Mycroft to get together and visit them, Jupiter appears, as Holmes called it. A huge man, possessing not only physical but also tangible intellectual power, was excited. With the death of the clerk, the drawings of the military submarine disappeared. To avoid an international conflict, they should be found as soon as possible and absolutely noiseless. Only two brothers, using all their remarkable abilities to effectively solve problems, were able to understand the shortest possible time in this intricate story. Sherlock Holmes was summoned to Buckingham Palace and awarded with a tie pin with a magnificent emerald.

Why are we still interested in the stories of Conan Doyle?

The deductive method, built on observance and the ability to bring together the disparate details of the intellectual "puzzle", attracts the reader more than the pouring blood and chilling details of the atrocious crimes.
