Is low blood pressure always a concern during pregnancy?

As you know, during pregnancy, the body spends all efforts to ensure a healthy and proper development of the fetus. Therefore, often old chronic diseases begin to worsen or new ones appear.

Among such diseases include low blood pressure during pregnancy (arterial hypotension). Remember that such a decrease in pressure can be caused by changes in the hormonal background. In this case, low blood pressure during pregnancy can occur even if a woman has not previously suffered from this ailment. In any case, a pregnant woman needs to constantly monitor the level of her pressure and, at the slightest changes in the indicators, seek counseling from the treating doctor.

In general, low blood pressure causes certain changes in the state of health, however, during pregnancy, some of them are considered acceptable. So, if a woman in this situation, the pressure of 95/60 is the norm. Remember that it is important to be able to distinguish between really low blood pressure and the standard pregnancy rate.

The pressure that will be the norm for a person should be measured in a calm state and with good health. Many believe that the normal pressure of each - 120/80. But this is not so. Everyone has their own pressure. If the woman is young, did not give birth once, weighs about 50 kg, then her normal pressure will be considered to be about 95/60.

Low blood pressure during pregnancy, if it is lower than the expected rate, usually causes a change in the woman's condition. So, there is a constant dizziness, weakness, nausea. After a sharp change in the position of the body, the pulse may become more frequent.

Even if the disease does not manifest itself, low blood pressure during pregnancy still negatively affects the work of the heart, brain and other organs, because the lack of oxygen develops. Therefore, hypotension can become a real threat to the life and health of the mother and baby.

Remember that at low blood pressure the blood flow in the placenta is impaired. Thus, the baby gets oxygen in insufficient quantity and can suffocate. If the child lies so that it puts pressure on the vena cava, the blood supply to the woman's heart is disturbed. This happens when the mother is lying on her back. This should not be allowed, because it is very dangerous for the life of both.

Reduction of pressure often accompanies toxicosis in the first trimester of pregnancy. Recommendations for improving the condition in this case is a balanced diet, walking in the air. As a rule, drugs to increase the pressure in pregnancy are not prescribed: they reduce the level of nutrients that enter the fetus.

Low blood pressure during pregnancy in the first trimester appears when there is a feeling of hunger. Therefore, before you get out of bed, eat a fruit or cracker. This will be a preventive measure against nausea and dizziness.

There are several recommendations that need to be listened to by pregnant women whose blood pressure is lowered:

  1. Do not rush to get out of bed: lie down a little, stretch properly. If after lifting you still feel unwell, change the pillow to a higher one.
  2. The diet of a pregnant woman should be rich in protein foods and fresh fruits.
  3. When there are sharp bouts of nausea, you need to lie down and lift your legs up. Thus, the brain is faster enriched in oxygen.
  4. It is better to wear compression stockings to prevent varicose veins and to stabilize the pressure.
  5. You need to lead an active lifestyle: do gymnastics, swimming. Motor activity keeps muscles in tone. Do not forget about the benefits of a contrast shower, which also normalizes the pressure
