International Men's Day: History and Features of the Holiday

The date of February 23 in our country is traditionally considered to be a man's day. Alas, a few of our compatriots know that there is another holiday, when representatives of the strong half of humanity can rightly accept congratulations. The International Men's Day (World Men's Day) was established on the initiative of the USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev, it is celebrated on the first Saturday in November. We will tell in more detail about this remarkable holiday and the history of its occurrence. At the head of the state, Mikhail Gorbachev decided once and for all to end male discrimination by introducing an appropriate holiday. His initiative was supported by the United Nations Office in Vienna, the Military Magistracy and other international organizations. In the United States, Australia, Britain, Singapore, India and a number of other countries, the International Men's Day is celebrated on November 19 and, in fact, has nothing to do with our holiday. It was established in Trinidad and Tobago relatively recently - in 1999. It is aimed at restoring gender equality. To date, more than fifty countries around the world are sending their congratulations to a man on this particular day.

In 2009, the main objectives, pursued by the states celebrating the International Men's Day, were officially approved. Namely: • Striving to emphasize the important role of an average middle-class man living a decent and honest life.
• Maintenance of social, emotional, spiritual and physical health and well-being of a strong half of humanity.
• Suppression of legal and social male discrimination.
• Ensure gender equality and improve communication between the sexes.
• Providing opportunities to realize their own potential.

Every year, the International Men's Day is dedicated to a certain topic. 2003 - for men's health, 2007 - healing and forgiveness, 2009 - the important role of men, etc. On this day in many countries around the world there are various open seminars, radio and television programs, round tables, demonstrations, marches, school activities.

In our country, this holiday is not so globally, and the vast majority of the population of Russia does not even suspect about its existence. Meanwhile, the male mortality of the population reaches a record level, it is four times higher than the female indicators. Therefore, the slogan "Take care of men!" In our country is more than justified. Of course, in this wonderful holiday, men expect us to take care, attention and warm words. Just tell them how much they mean to you.
