Insulation of the ceiling of the bath: choose the method

Warming the ceiling of the bath is a key moment in its construction. The following requirements are imposed on this part of the structure:

  • Protection from moisture and high temperatures;
  • Good thermal insulation properties, eliminating the loss of precious heat;
  • Strength, allowing to withstand weight loads;
  • The absence of condensation, capable of dropping cold drops down from the ceiling.

How to achieve these conditions? Construction and insulation of the ceiling of the bath can be done in various ways. To begin with, you need to decide on the choice of material for the work. You can immediately exclude popular fiberboard, plywood and plastic. The first two materials are deformed by wetting, and if they are painted or proolifit - they will begin to evolve toxic evaporation from the heat. On the plastic, condensate accumulates actively.

The device of a ceiling in a bath

Option without attic

Both in log houses and in paneled baths, the ceiling has the same design. The only difference is that in the built-in steam room, instead of the outer skin, there is a roof. The structure and insulation of the ceiling of the bath include the following elements:

  • Vapor barrier;
  • Ceiling boards;
  • Beam beams;
  • Heater;
  • Rolling covering.

Option with attic

In this case, the device is different. Above the ceiling boards there is a coating of clay, the thickness of which varies from one and a half to two centimeters. The insulation of the ceiling in the bath takes place by backfilling wood chips, which are previously soaked in cement mortar. The layer of such insulation should have a thickness of fifteen to seventeen cm. It is possible to use other materials for the same purpose, the main thing to remember is that an insufficient layer of insulation will lead to the appearance of condensate on the ceiling. If this happens, you need to add the amount of heat protection.

Warming the ceiling of the bath in an ancient way

The ceiling is collected from a dry board with a quarter and dowel, the thickness of which exceeds 4 centimeters. In the process of assembly, the appearance of gaps inevitably occurs. They are smeared after the end of the flooring from the attic side soaked clay without the addition of sand. Consistency of the mixture should resemble fatty sour cream.

When the clay dries in the cracks, it is applied to the entire surface completely, but in this case it is already mixed with sand in the same proportion as for the stove. The thickness of the layer of the mixture is five or six centimeters. When it dries, dry sand is covered from above, the height of the embankment is from ten centimeters.

The passage of the pipe is insulated taking into account all the norms of fire safety. The distance between the smoke hole and the ceiling boards can not be less than 25 centimeters, while the wooden parts nearest to the pipe must be protected with an asbestos sheet.

The principle of operation of such a ceiling is as follows: the bath is filled with steam, the clay absorbs it and soaks, thus preventing water from condensing. When the dry heat accumulates in the bath, the clay dries out, keeping heat for a long time.

Modern thermal insulation for the bath

Sometimes the builders of baths insulate their ceiling on the principle of saunas. As a result, the steam does not hold steam. And the problem is not only in ventilation, but also in the way the ceiling was insulated.

A classic Russian log cabin should have the following ceiling device. The bottom layer is plaques, at least 6 cm thick. They are laid with a vapor barrier: a dense cardboard, impregnated with linseed oil, aluminum foil or waxed paper. From above everything is covered with soft clay. After drying, it is necessary to start thermal insulation.

In the role of insulation can act sawdust impregnated with clay mortar, earth, sand, expanded clay, mineral wool. Clay in impregnation does not allow mice to be bred, this is its advantage. Especially carefully you need to insulate the ceiling next to the pipeline.

Next, either make a cement-sand screed, or plank the planks.
