"Jane Eyre," Charlotte Bronte

Roman Charlotte Bronte is heard by many: he was not only reissued and filmed. This book is a classic of foreign literature in its best manifestation.

Before the readers the world appears through the eyes of Jane Eyre - a modest English girl who was early deprived of her parents and forced to live in her aunt's house and suffer beatings and injustice. Entering the Lowwood School for Girls only seems to be the best option at first glance: the living conditions are worse than in the house of the "benefactress", but here Jane has friends for the first time, and then work, through which she gets to know the love of her life. However, on the way to the desired happiness, Jane will have to shed a lot of tears, learn to say goodbye and forgive.

"Wuthering Heights", Emily Bronte

The story of love, passion and hate - so briefly you can describe the famous book by Emily Bronte, still exciting the hearts of readers. What is so attractive about it? Foreign classics are able to famously twist the plot and keep the reader in suspense until the very end of history.

One day a new guest comes to the Wuthering Heights. Instead of the hospitable owner and comfortable home of Mr. Lockwood, something else awaits: a rough landlord, his sullen relatives and a general sense of gloom and neglect of the estate. Having become friends with the old servant, Lockwood learns the story of the "Wuthering Heights" - a history of destructive love, passion and hatred that lasts for decades.

Notre Dame Cathedral, Victor Hugo

Do you like the way French (foreign) classics write? Then be sure to read one of Victor Hugo's best novels.

The author tells a tragic and beautiful love story of several young people to one girl. Heroes do not experience a timid, tender feeling, but love that leads to sin and obscures common sense. But who will choose the beautiful Esmeralda? The one who is ugly in appearance but beautiful in soul and ready to protect his beloved, no matter what? Or will he give preference to a sweet-faced handsome man who sees in a girl only a toy?

"Sister Kerry", Theodore Dreiser

Why are foreign classics still interesting? Probably, because the stories living on the pages of written books are no less relevant than at the time of the publication of the works.

Eighteen-year-old Kerry Miber, in the hope of a better life, moves from a small town to Chicago. But the girl's hopes are not justified: neither relatives nor the city are happy about her arrival. Only a casual acquaintance of Drouet shows interest in it, and he introduces pretty Kerry with the manager of the bar George Hurstwood. Relationships with George, which at first seemed like luck, lead the girl to New York, where she finally finds her calling on the stage of the theater.

Wives and Daughters, Elizabeth Gaskell

This novel is deservedly included in the collection of "foreign classics, the best." The plot may not be new, but it's interesting to read, and many situations seem vital.

Molly Gibson has been in love with Roger Hamley since childhood. But she is only the daughter of a simple doctor, and he is the heir of a noble and rich family, so that there can be no feelings about anything. Especially it turns out that Roger is not indifferent to the half-sister of the girl - temperamental Cynthia, and that seems to reciprocate him. However, it soon becomes clear that Cynthia has her secrets, and Roger needs her only to gain freedom from the past. However, despite the love triangle, everyone eventually finds their happiness.

"The Adventures of Oliver Twist," by Charles Dickens

If you like foreign classics, and you prefer books with a happy end, then pay attention to this story.

In the center of the story is the life of Oliver Twist - a boy who turned up in an orphan asylum after the death of his mother. Because of a small offense, the child is given a journeyman to the undertaker, but, unable to withstand the ill-treatment, Oliver escapes from the office and heads to London. On this misadventure the boys do not end: he manages to get into a gang of pickpockets. And only the meeting with Mr. Brownlow promises to put an end to the black strip in the life of an unsuccessful thief.

"Red and black," Stendhal

The book is considered the pearl of creativity of Stendhal - master of the psychological novel. The basis for writing the work was real events.

Julien Sorel is ambitious, judicious, ready to go on the heads for the sake of achieving his goals. When the vacancy of the tutor in the mayor's house was vacated, the young man did not think for a long time and easily got a vacant seat. Just as easily, Julien won the heart of Madame de Renal - the wife of her employer. But because of the rumors spreading through the city the young man has to leave. However, fate is favorable to him, and Sorel receives the seat of the Secretary of the Marquis de La Mole in Paris. Clever and ambitious, he attracts the attention of the daughter of the Marquis and, although he does not feel reciprocated towards the girl, ties up with her and makes plans for the future. However, everything spoils an unexpected letter from a former mistress: a young man is deprived of his position and bright prospects and inspired by a thirst for revenge decides to kill Ms. de Renal.

"The night is gentle," Fitzgerald

The works of foreign classics, and not only foreign ones, often cause mixed impressions after reading. "The night is gentle" was not an exception: a bright tie, an interesting development of the plot and leaving a bitter aftertaste finale. What is this: a love story or a moral degradation, a happy end or a meaningful ellipsis? Everyone decides for himself after reading.

Young psychiatrist Dick Diver falls in love with the patient and marries her. The couple lives in their own house on the Riviera coast, leading a rather closed life, occasionally arranging gatherings with friends. Everything changes when Rosemary comes to the coast. Eighteen-year-old actress is very different from Nicole, and Dick falls in love with her. However, the novel did not last long - the beauty leaves and appears in the life of a psychiatrist only four years later, all the same beautiful and brilliant. The novel flares up again and just as quickly fades, and Dick's career begins to fade after him. However, the hero again after a while meets his lover. What now awaits Dick, and will he finally be able to decide his desires and find happiness?

"Dangerous communications", Choderlo de Laclo

If you are interested in foreign novels (classics), then pay attention to this book. This is a novel in letters, but despite the genre, the book is read easily, language and style are beyond praise. A special intrigue is that the author assures the authenticity of all correspondence, only slightly adjusted by the editor.

The plot is simple and in some cases predictable, but the events are developing rapidly, the passions are heating up, and let the reader do not know what the characters look like, this does not in the least interfere with the perception of the picture as a whole.

Madame de Voulange takes her daughter Cecil from the monastery and plans to marry the girl to the Count de Jarkur. The Marquise de Murteu learns about the upcoming wedding and, wanting to take revenge on her former lover, persuades her friend Viscount de Valmont to seduce an innocent girl.

"The Catcher in the Rye," Jerome Salinger

The cult of Jerome Salinger, considered to be a cult novel, still causes conflicting emotions among readers: some consider him to be a masterpiece and do not think the best books of foreign classics without this work, others genuinely try to understand what the author wrote and why everyone likes it.

The main character is the sixteen-year-old Holden Caulfield, who is on treatment at the clinic. He has a difficult relationship with his peers, the girls do not get along, and the only person he can trust is Phoebe's younger sister. All others seem to him too overacting or repulsive. Holden tries to find his place in life, but there comes a time when the only desire of a teenager is to escape from everything.

The book is quite interesting psychologically, if you do not wait for adventures or the hero's attempts to change the world or even yourself.
