In candle wells oil: what to do? Oil in candlesticks ("Priora")

The cars of the VAZ family have many features in terms of maintenance, and one of them is the ingress of oil into the candle wells. The reasons for this phenomenon can be different, in many respects everything depends on the specific model and type of engine. Today, we will consider what is threatening to leak oil in the ICE's candle wells and how to solve this problem with our own hands.

Causes of failure and ways to solve the problem

This happens quite often. Let's understand why. Oil in the candlestick appears because of the wear of the gaskets. In general, this problem is not so dangerous, in any case, not as much as, for example, getting the same lubricant on the cylinder head. Perhaps the most serious consequence of this problem is the softening of the rubber insulator of high-voltage wires, which in turn will cause breakdown. But this does not mean that you can let things go by themselves. Did you notice that oil enters the candle well? Immediately change the pads of the wells - and the problem will be solved. Otherwise, it is very often necessary to change candles (usually their resource is reduced several times).

How to repair?

Why is formed in the candle wells oil, we have already found out, now we will talk about how to make replacement gaskets. First we need to prepare all the spare parts and materials. In the course of the work to eliminate the leak, you will need:

  • Two valve cover gaskets.
  • 10 sealing washers.
  • Grease WD 40 and silicone grease.
  • 4 stuffing box sockets.
  • Engine cleaner.

Having prepared everything you need, you can safely get down to work. In general, the process of replacing the gaskets of the wells can be divided into several stages:

  1. Remove the valve cover.
  2. Dismantling of wells.
  3. Removal of old sealing rings and installation of new ones.
  4. Reverse assembly.

More detailed instructions

Below we will consider in detail how to eliminate oil in the candle wells of the 2112th VAZ and other models of the cars of the Volga Automobile Plant.

So, where to start? First remove the plastic engine cover and the receiver. All openings that are in the intake manifold are closed with lids (this is necessary for us to prevent the penetration of foreign objects into the part). Then the ignition module is dismantled, as well as the crankcase ventilation hose from the cover of the cylinder block. Then, using a key for 10, unscrew the bolt of the bracket connector of the harness wire harness nozzle. With the spanner key on the 8, 15 fixing screws on the cylinder head cover (also called valve) are loosened. After that, the cover of the unit is removed from the machine.

We check the hydraulic pusher

Next, check the hydraulic pusher. How to do it? All is very simple - with the help of a soft metal knockout (or a simple screwdriver), just click on it and trace its further state. Ideally, the hydraulic pusher should be pressed with great force. But if for this you have applied a minimum of strength, then, most likely, this device must be replaced. By the way, when diagnosing the hydraulic tappet cam cam must necessarily be sent to the first rear side.

How to replace this part?

Since we can not neglect the replacement of the hydraulic pusher in the course of solving our problem, we will devote a couple of words to replacing this device.

The first thing to do is to remove the camshaft sprockets and the wire from the oil pressure lamp sensor. Then, with the spanner key 8, 20 bolts of the bearing housing of this shaft are loosened.

The bolt that connects the rod to the engine support bracket must also be removed. Further, 3 nuts are extracted at the same place with a key for 15. After that, the bracket of the rear support will not be securely fixed, and it can be safely removed (like the camshaft bearing housing). From the latter, the guide pipes of the spark plugs are removed. Further, the camshafts are removed from the housing. Do not forget the stuffing box.

At the next stage two rear plugs of the block of cylinders and the case of bearings of cam-shafts are dismantled. In order to remove the hydraulic pusher, a magnet is applied to the end portion thereof and the part is successfully removed from the head socket.

Before assembly, the cylinder head is thoroughly cleaned of dirt, and the camshaft bearing housing is made of oil and old sealants. Further, the cams of the shafts and the supporting necks are lubricated with a new engine oil.

On the surface of the bearing housing, which is interfaced with the cylinder head, a special substance (sealant) "Loctite No. 574" is applied with a 2-mm flagellum. Then the casing is put back into place.

Now it is necessary to lubricate the O-rings and install the guide pipes into the cylinder head and bearing housings. After that, new camshaft packing is pressed in, and plugs are installed on the back of the unit.

Before installing the cylinder head cover, sealant (the same "Loctite", which eliminates oil in the candle wells) must be applied to its surface. "Prio VAZ", however, can be repaired in another way. Which one - read further in the article.

What if the oil formed in the candle wells? Troubleshoot the problem in an alternative way

Consider a faster method of eliminating the problem that will occur without removing the receiver and the valve cover. However, here we will need a special tool. And here many motorists have difficulties. The fact is that this tool (we are talking about the puller of the sealing rings of a candle well) is very difficult to find in stores, so often drivers have to make it with their own hands.

How to make a puller?

Everything is very simple and cheap. To assemble this tool, you need to have a metal stud with a length of at least 15 centimeters, a piece of rubber hose with a diameter of 20-25 millimeters, several washers, nuts and one sleeve. What to do with all this? First, a washer is put on the long stud, then an elastic band, a bush and nuts. Everything - the puller of the sealing rings of the candle well has been successfully manufactured! The cost of such a tool is not more than 100 rubles, and you can make it in almost a few minutes. So you very quickly remove the oil in the candle wells. "Priora" and many other models of domestic cars are repaired with the help of this tool.

Pay attention to the rubber band was clamped on both sides by washers. In this case, the diameter of the latter should be as close to the width of the candle itself. Otherwise, the clamped elastic band will get out into the gap between the well and the puck, and we do not need this.

Traction handle is made of a valve nut. The lower washer must rest against the tip of the stud, and the upper was pressed against the sleeve.

So, we proceed to repair. First the stripper is inserted into the candle well, after which the lower nut is tightened until the moment when the axial movement of the tool will enable us to pull out the well. After a little effort, the glass will be successfully removed.

In the course of the work, pay attention to the fact that the inserted rubber cleaner does not protrude from the height of the well. Similarly to the first case, we install new oil seals, lubricate it with oil and assemble in the reverse order. By the way, the installation process takes less time from you than with dismantling.

Nuances in the performance of work

If you decide to resort to the second option, do not forget about the rules of operation and work with this puller, otherwise you will not be able to remove oil in candle wells. What exactly is it about? We explain.

Firstly, the elastic of the instrument must be immersed in the candle well in full size. Otherwise, it will gradually expand, and you will not be able to remove the glass.

Secondly, when removing the well, there is a possibility of the valve cover shifting, which can subsequently block the exit of the key. But since the thickness of the glass wall is too small, with the help of a long thin screwdriver, this part can be easily removed.

Thirdly, when pulling out the candle key, make sure that the old lower seal does not come off.

Summing up

In the first case, we spent about 4 hours and about 1,500 rubles on all the necessary work. Using the second method, for repairs you will spend no more than 1.5 hours, as the need for removal and re-installation of the receiver and the valve cover will be excluded.

So, we found out why oil forms in candle wells and how to eliminate this problem with our own hands. Do not break!
