If the child often blinks ...

All people are constantly blinking. This involuntary movement of the eyes, it is made constantly, cleanses and moisturizes the eyes. That is, blinking is a normal process that is performed unconsciously. But sometimes it happens that the uniform movements of the eyelids imperceptibly pass into very frequent and rapid compression and expansion, especially in the case of the appearance of some stimulus. Frequent permanent blinking is usually perceived as an alarm signal when a foreign body enters the eye or excessive dryness of the mucosa occurs.

Sometimes parents notice that the child often blinks his eyes, with eyelids quickly and tightly pressed against each other. This is manifested mainly unexpectedly, in such cases there is a thought about the need to visit an ophthalmologist. In this case, when the child often blinks his eyes, it really first of all needs to be shown to the eye doctor or neurologist. It often happens that the reason for this is a very over-dried cornea of the eyes, and frequent blinking provides additional moistening. And there are other reasons that need to be addressed not to the oculist, but to the neurologist. These include head injuries with all the ensuing consequences.

There are many examples in which after a craniocerebral trauma (concussion) complications appear, one of which is eye blinking and other nervous tics.

In some cases, the child often blinks his eyes because of tics, which are spontaneous contractions of the facial muscles, lifting the eyebrows, blinking, pulling the cheeks, jerking. Most often, these conditions are observed in children aged 6-12 years. Of all the manifestations of tics, it is the blinking that occurs most often and is considered, in the main, as a psychological problem.

The causes of the appearance of tics in children are very different. The child often blinks, if he is very frightened, experiences inner feelings or stress. Very often the child's parents see a bad habit in frequent blinking and try to wean from it. As a result, it can only get worse, because the blinking of the eyes in children manifests itself unconsciously, the child can not itself cope with this habit. At the same time, from the comments of adults, he worries, and as a result, blinking can only increase.

If blinking is a consequence of a concussion, then it is necessary to contact a neurologist who will prescribe a course of treatment. Nowadays it is treated without problems, the main thing is not to run and call a qualified doctor!

The psychological cause of blinking is very often accompanied by symptoms such as irritability, bad mood, fatigue, lack of appetite, sleep disturbance. The child often has nightmares, there is a state of internal anxiety. In such cases, you need to seek help from a neurologist or psychiatrist. In most cases, children who have frequent blinking eyes, can not properly explain their condition, the causes of anxiety, fear. This abnormal state is due to a variety of reasons. These reasons are both explicit and hidden. For example, parents' demands for learning and behavior are too high, or, on the contrary, lack of attention, difficult family environment, poor care, hereditary factors, child's hyperactivity, and others.

Frequent blinking of eyes in children can suddenly appear and suddenly disappear. In some cases, long-term, special treatment may be required. This treatment is carried out not only with the help of medicines, but in a complex. In addition to sedatives (and sometimes antidepressants), usual parental attention is required, a healthy environment in the family. A positive effect is provided by a full-fledged sleep, peace, rest, a healthy diet, the correct regime of the day. Beneficial effects on children have coniferous baths, soothing phyto-teas, well relaxing nervous system. Parents (grandmothers and grandfathers, too) are categorically not open to the child's discussion of his illness and scold for her manifestations. It must be remembered that the child does not blink specifically, that is, not to annoy relatives - it's just that he does not get it any differently. And screaming and swearing only lead to aggravation of the disease.

There may be other causes of frequent blinking of the eyes, for example, parasitic infection or conjunctivitis. In all cases, you need to see a doctor, objectively evaluate the situation and undergo an appropriate examination, and if necessary, then treatment.
