Hunting rifle "Sauer": models, photos and technical characteristics

The Sauer gun is probably known to every hunter in Russia, which is not surprising. From the very beginning of production activity, the company tried to put its products on the Soviet market, which in the end it did. It is noteworthy, but the weapon was created on the basis of the achievements of famous armourers of the world, which was reflected in the design features of almost all models.

The Sauer gun was originally produced with a standard drill: it had different types of chokes for the left and right trunks, which was liked by both hunters and amateurs. The trunks differed in the accuracy of combat in 60-65% with full choke and 50-55% with a half-choke. Consider the most popular models and get acquainted with their technical characteristics. Let's start with those products that were manufactured before the First World War.

Model "Stork"

This hammer rifle was one of the first that was produced on the basis of machines. True, this model has ceased to be produced due to imperfect construction of locks. But the nodes of this model formed the basis for the following guns, which were equipped with a triple locking system - it was controlled by a top key. "Stork" is a Sauer gun of the 12th caliber, as well as calibers 16 and 20. To create the bed, the wood of the nut was used, and the weapon itself had a very small weight - about 3 kg. Beautiful external lines were supplemented with an ornament in the form of engraving on metal.

The "Stork" model and its prototypes became the basis for sport rifles used for shooting at the trench stand, also the basis for many further models were the choke nozzles and combined rifles with a smooth and rifled barrel.

"Hawk"

This non-smoking gun "Sauer" was constantly improved, and the changes concerned first of all locks in the shoe. The first products had a lower locking with a double frame and a top one in the form of a "puppet head". Then the model was released, which already has triple locking. An even more sophisticated gun was created with a complicated shoe, the rear part of which was in the form of wide double notches, and the hangers were equipped with side cheeks.

Already from the 1920s, the Sauer gun (12 caliber) was produced with a reduced diameter of the barrel channels, which at the same time met the existing rules. The model "Hawk" became the base for the rest of the products, in which the trunks were located horizontally, and the Anson-Diley system was used as locks. The trunks were locked on the basis of a triple system, and with the help of an automatic fuse, only the whisper was locked.

Model 15

This is also a non-smoking weapon, which is distinguished by the equipping of Holland-Holland high-class locking systems. Ornamental engraving of the model is made in the best traditions of the English style. This gun "Sauer" became the prototype of the rounded tee model 25A. Its distinctive features are the location on the side boards of the battle springs and the sear and, on the lower face, the trigger of the rifled barrel. The non-woven tee on the basis of locks on the side boards was in demand, although it was not cheap. That is why the plant switched to the production of models based on machines. As a consequence, the new model had a cameless tee on the trigger mask, and to move the front trigger from one barrel to another, it was enough to move the button on the neck of the box.

Trends in weapons production in time of war

The first modernization of the Sauer production took place after the First World War. At this time, the German Sauer guns were made only by machine on machines that numbered about 2000, the guns were assembled by hand. Also, the models were subjected to fine-tuning of parts by hand, after which they were engraved and encrusted in wood or metal.

Due to the global economic crisis and the subsequent war, the plant switched to the production of military products. And only since the summer of 1945 the German guns "Sauer" began to be produced at the same level. In this case, experts noted that the quality of new models inferior to pre-war analogs.

Postwar tendencies

After the end of the war, the plant focused on the sale of products primarily in the US. Accordingly, the weapon had a vertical arrangement of trunks, including combined twins. The guns were equipped with locks of Kerston, shock-trigger mechanisms of Blitz or Perde. The horizontal arrangement of the trunks was used in several models, which had one or two triggers. In the sixties, the gun created by the Sauer plant began to enter the market under different names, which is explained by the gradual merger of the plant with other cooperations. For example, together with companies from Belgium, a hunting carbine was created .

Markings and emblems

Guns of German production were constantly passed mandatory and additional tests, information about which was displayed on the product itself. For example, figure 1 indicates that the gun barrels had previously passed the powder tests, figure 2 indicates that the model passed the powder test already after its assembly, number 3 marks the caliber of the guns and so on. It is noteworthy, but the marks were constantly changing.

Inscriptions and brand names are on the trunk, the barrel, the back of the rifle butt. They are presented in different forms: "I. P. Sauer and his son "or" Sauer ", the letter S. There were also drawings: the first models often depicted a man with a club, but the most popular were the Sauer guns 3 rings. The intertwined rings served as evidence that the models were made from some steel grades, most often Krupp ones. Moreover, in terms of wear and reliability, and in terms of design features, such products did not differ from those that were created on the basis of other steel grades.

Over time, images in the form of three rings and a man with a baton were no longer used for marking. The gun "Sauer" (three rings) was replaced by a model in which the person was labeled by an anvil in the GDR and a circle with three intertwined letters S in Germany. Now consider the most popular models that were delivered to Russia.

Each hunter will certainly appreciate the deep foundation of the trunks and a thoughtful system of the shutter device, which previously could only equip expensive and elite models. Due to this laying, the danger of bending from the shutter is reduced if large-caliber cartridges are used. The laying also affects the strengthening of the axial ends of the pusher without weakening the walls of the trunk. All components of the locking mechanism, including the fuse, are located within sight and firmly hold, which serves as a guarantee of safe operation. The bed is solid, made of high quality wood, and reliable wooden walls are formed due to flat trunnions that penetrate deeply into the shutter.
