How to teach the dog to the tray?

The maintenance of a dog in the conditions of a city apartment is always accompanied with some inconveniences. And not in the last place among them is the dog's toilet. However, recently more and more dog owners have solved this problem, accustoming their pets to cope with their "deeds" at home, in a special dog tray. Someone will find this a little strange, someone very comfortable, and someone first hears about this and wonders how to accustom an adult dog to the tray?

Accustoming to the tray has a lot of advantages. Firstly, there is no need to get up on an early winter morning, dress yourself and put on a pet just to get out on the street "for five minutes". Secondly, the dog, accustomed to the tray, can safely leave one house for a whole day, and immediately it becomes unnecessary after a working day to rush home to hurry up the pet. Solving this important problem will make a friend even those people who previously could not afford it because of an uncomfortable work schedule. And, thirdly, not in every yard, especially in large metropolitan areas, there is a special place where you can safely walk the dog - all vacant places have long occupied the motorists under parking for their "iron horses".

How to teach the dog to the tray? First of all, you need to buy a toilet in the pet store. When choosing it, be guided by the size of the dog (if you have a puppy - look at the size of an adult dog). Too small a tray does not fit, dogs do not like to cope with need in "cramped" conditions. Also the tray should be without high boards, and its grille should stand tight and even, as if it is free to "hang out", it can scare the pet. Attention! The cat tray for these purposes is not suitable in all respects! Although sometimes it happens that the owners manage to accustom the dog to use the cat's tray, but this is more an exception than the rule.

Trays are of two types - for diapers (with a lock) and for use without it (with a grille). If you are not at home for a long time, or someone from family members is allergic, then choose the option with a diaper, since it absorbs very well not only the liquid, but also the smell, not allowing it to spread around the room. The variant with a lattice (rubber or plastic) is more economical, since it does not require a regular purchase of absorbent mats. Urine will drain under the grate into special grooves and the paws of the dog will always be dry. If you have a dog, then you should choose a toilet with a column, because nature will take its own, and the boy will need to "pick up the paw". And if he does not have such an opportunity in his closet, he will do it on the walls and corners of the room.

So, with the purchase of the tray determined, perhaps even have already acquired it, it remains to teach how to use it the dog. It's not so difficult, the main thing is to know how. You can teach a dog to the tray at almost any age, you just have to be patient and do not force events. For an adult dog, a minimum of two weeks is required for training, and it takes at least a month to complete this skill.

Beginning of training the dog to the tray is easiest with using a special diaper for the toilet. They are sold in pet stores, most of them additionally contain a special attractive impregnation. So, how to teach a dog to a diaper? First of all, it is necessary to remove from the rooms all the well-absorbent coatings - carpets, rugs and carpets, since dogs are often chosen as their toilet. The diaper should be removed to the place where the tray will later stand. The choice of this place should be approached responsibly. It is important that this place is not "on the pass", so that no one disturbs the dog during her "affairs". Make sure that she always has access to the room where the tray is. If it is a bathroom or a toilet, then the door should always be kept ajar.

To facilitate the task of accustoming the dog to the toilet, you can purchase a special attracting spray in the pet store, for example "The Dog Coach", "My place? Yes! "Or any other of their analogues. These products contain a special smell that helps the dog to understand much more quickly what the host wants from it. With this spray it is necessary to regularly process the absorbent diaper (and then the tray) for two to three weeks, until the dog has the necessary skill. In addition to attracting spray, you may need a spray-antigadin and a special cleaning product. Antigadin is a deterrent, its use will allow us to wean the animal to cope with need in the wrong place, without resorting to violence. Means for cleaning animals are designed to destroy traces of urine, feces and "marks". Unlike conventional means for washing the floor, which not only removes the smell of the "tag", but temporarily mask it, they dissolve the traces of urine and feces completely. If the dog has done "business" in the wrong place, then, first of all, it should be cleaned and cleaned with special equipment, and then sprinkle it with an anti-gassing spray. Repeat the treatment should be done regularly, before the dog develops a persistent skill to avoid this place.

To speed up the development of the skill, many breeders recommend for the duration of training to protect the dog with one room, not allowing it to move freely around the apartment in order to avoid "accidents". Most importantly, as with any training, do not forget about active encouragement for any correct action - that is, for using the tray. It can be a treat, a favorite toy or your caress. Once the dog has done its work in the right place - immediately praise her and let her walk around the apartment - this will also be a big encouragement for her. Gradually allow her to spend more time outside her room, but watch out for where and what she does. In case she went to the toilet where it should be - immediately praise. If you notice that the dog "crouched" is not where you want it - act immediately. Clap your hands loudly to distract her, and immediately take it (or carry it on your hands) to the diaper. Do not scold the dog for "piles" in the wrong place. Especially if you found it already "in fact." In this case, the dog will not understand why you are scolding her, and your learning process will go much slower.

How to teach the dog to the tray after the diaper? After you have purchased the tray, clean it thoroughly to wash off the smell of new plastic and put it on the chosen place. The diaper to which the dog has become accustomed (preferably, once already used by it) is placed on top. The dog will quickly understand what is required of it. Since the dog tray has no sides and is almost at the floor level, it will not be difficult for it to climb into it. If you decide to use the tray without a diaper in the future, do not remove it sharply. As the pet accustoms to the new toilet, gradually reduce the size of the diaper used - at first by half, then again as much. The dog will see the diaper she is used to, but now she will not cover the toilet lattice, and gradually the dog will get used to walking on a clean lattice.

Never scold a dog if she did business near the tray, not in it. Punishment can fix her negative feelings towards the toilet as a whole, and then you have to start all over again. If this is repeated regularly, move the tray so that it does not have room for "maneuver" next to it.

So, now you know how to accustom the dog to the tray, and as you can see, it's not so difficult. Get a little patience, and you'll succeed!
